A Bit of a Mystery

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 14th January 2011

Characters: Sh'lua, Gilsha
Description: Sh'lua asks Gilsha to dance during the Hatching fest.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 8 of Turn 5

"May I have this dance?" Sh'lua bowed at the greenrider. The bluerider
was wearing his best gather clothes and knew he looked, if not handsome,
than at least attractively pleasant.

Gilsha turned to look the bluerider up and down. Shrugging shoulder she
said, "Sure, why not."

"Why not indeed," Sh'lua offered her his hand.

"You are new, I believe," she said as she allowed him to lead her onto
the dance floor.

"A rather recent transferr-in, yes, although I don't feel new," Sh'lua
replied. He guided her to the floor.

Gilsha smiled. "You certainly don't look _old_."

"Why thank you," Sh'lua grinned. "I did mean that I was actually born
and grew up _here_," not that he minded receiving compliments.

"Ah, but then you seemed to have left here, or else you couldn't be a
recent transfer."

"Yes, I moved to Dolphin Cowe after the earthquake, they needed
desperately crafter-riders like me," Sh'lua told her.

"Aren't you the hero then," she lightly teased as she followed his lead.

"If you say so. I never thought myself so. I was thinking: tropical sun,
beaches, scantilly clad women and men, oh yes! " Sh'lua's eyes sparkled
by laughter.

"I like a bit of mystery," Gilsha shrugged as she allowed him to turn
her.

"Do you like to be a mystery, or do you like mysterious people?" Sh'lua
asked and swirrled her around.

She grinned. "Well, I have been told I'm a bit of a mystery, I like
myself and I like _being_ myself, so I suppose both apply."

"Should I talk less then and try to uncover your mysteries?" Sh'lua's
tone was light and flirty.

"You think silence will bring them out?"

"Well, sometimes it works," Sh'lua said with a smile. "Some people
cant's stand the silence, they have to fill it with talk."

"People who need to talk that much are obviously not very mysterious,
are they?" After all, those are the type that would spill all their
secrets in one sitting given half a chance.

"They are not," Sh'lua agreed with her.

"I notice that you seem to feel a need to fill in the time with words."
She smiled so he would know it was a tease rather than a criticism.
"What secrets do you have to share?"

"Me? Secrets? Sorry to dissappoint you, but I don't have any
secrets...unless it's about how to win dragonpoker," Sh'lua said with a
wink.

Gilsha cocked her head to the side. "I'm sure there's more to you than
that, bluerider."

"Perhaps you just have to find it out yourself, m'dear greenrider,"
Sh'lua said with mysterious tone.

She shrugged as if it were all the same to her. "I have to warn you, I
get a little bored with coy."

"Aaaw, but I'm so _good_ with coy!"

Gilsha snorted softly. "You and every other blue, brown, and bronze
rider out there."

"And I thought I stood out," Sh'lua pretended disappointment.

"You've given me no reason to make you stand out." Her eyebrow lifted
slightly, just daring him to tell her something she didn't already know.

"Ou, you're a tough one," Sh'lua said. He actually had to think what to
tell her. "Did you knew I nearly lost my leg when the Fall began?" he
asked. "On bad day, I still limp."

"You and how many other riders?" She asked, a little smile playing on
her lips. "What else?"

"Umh. I have children?," That wasn't exactly a secret. "I have to come
to the conclusion that I'm terribly unmysterious person," Sh'lua said.

Gilsha had to laugh at that. "Oh come on now, bluerider, there has to
be _something_. A hidden talent? Or a secret vice? Maybe you bedded a
Lord Holder's son?"

"None that I know of. Of course, they don't all tell their pedigree,"
Sh'lua replied. "And my vices are far from secret."

"How very disappointing. I suggest you find one so you'll have
something interesting to tell me the next time we dance," she said,
smiling to show that she meant it all in fun.

"So, there will be next dance," Sh'lua remarked just when the music died
and the harper's declared a break.

She nodded, her smile deepening. "I don't see any reason why there
wouldn't be."
