A Lifelong Commitment

Writers: Anaria
Date Posted: 6th December 2010

Characters: J'nor
Description: Jerenor Impresses Blue Zoranaith.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 8 of Turn 5

Jerenor was up to his elbows in dye when the humming began. Muttering
curses under his breath, he raced to the bathing chambers, leaving a
trail of red drops behind him. He bathed as quickly as he could before
running half naked back to the candidate barracks, where he found that
most of the other candidates had already gotten into their white robes
and were being herded towards the Hatching Sands. He ran back to his
bunk, changed quickly into his white Hatching gown, and then tore down
to the Sands with impressive speed.

His heart raced and he struggled to get ahold of his breath as he
looked around at the crowd in the Stands. He kept a safe distance from
Genith, who appeared to be less than thrilled by the Candidates
intruding her Sands.

All too soon, the first egg shook mightily and split open, revealing a
brown dragon. Jerenor dared not hope that the creature would choose
him, instead focused on steadying himself, and catching his breath.
The Hatchling found it's way to his lifemate, and Jerenor forced back
a twinge of disappointment. In the back of his mind, a steady chant of
**Bronze, bronze, bronze, bronze, bronze** went through his head, as
in his mind this was the only color that was acceptable, the only
thing fit for him. With his looks, his charm, and a bronze dragon,
there was no _way_ that little Harper girl could say no to him. Well,
after he was allowed to have relationships again.

All the sudden, as if that Impression was a cue to the rest of the
eggs, there seemed to be Hatchlings everywhere. Jerenor ignored the
green - he knew that he wasn't greenrider material, and focused
instead on the two bronzes that were walking about. There were so many
candidates and dragons on the sands that Jerenor feared that someone
was going to get injured.

Then, Jerenor felt a peculiar urge, something he'd never felt before.
Behind him, a dragon was lost, and was stumbling around his
clutchmates haphazardly. Jerenor knew that he needed to go help the
dragon, prevent him from hurting anyone or being hurt - but he was
unaware of why he felt so strongly. He walked straight towards the
blue weyrling - a slender creature, who's neck wasn't quite strong
enough to support his own head, with a hide of the darkest midnight
blue, still gleaming with fluid from his egg.

}:J'nor, why were you all the way over there?:{ The blue dragon
chided, looking up at his new lifemate. }:Didn't you know I would be
over here?:{ He demanded.

J'nor fell to his knees, wrapping the blue dragon into a hug. He was
suddenly overwhelmed with the feeling of love and acceptance that
enveloped him. At that moment, he couldn't care less what color
Zoranaith's hide was - because he was _his_ dragon, and no one could
take him away.

Their embrace was cut short as Zoranaith's other needs came to light,
and J'nor felt a hunger deeper than any other he'd ever felt before.
Remembering his candidate lessons, he looked up, and found that
someone was directing the new Weyrling pairs out to the barracks,
where they had meat already cut up for the young dragons.

**Come with me," J'nor thought, feeling a bit silly. **I will get you food.**

}:Ok!:{ Zoranaith responded brightly. }:I'm soo hungry!:{

As he'd expected, there were buckets filled to overflowing with
herdbeast meat. Fighting with his gag reflex, J'nor picked up a cube
of meat, and tossed it into Zoranaith's waiting mouth. Zoranaith had
been watching his siblings, and saw that he needed to chew the meat
before swallowing it. J'nor was relieved - he had heard some young
dragons had a hard time getting the concept of chewing down.

Zoranaith was an unexpectedly neat eater, which was another thing
J'nor was grateful for. He was certainly not looking forward to the
next few sevendays of waking early every day to slice up beasts so his
dragon could eat. As Zoranaith's stomach filled, J'nor found himself
having more and more time to look around and observe the other
Weyrlings.

A boy that had Impressed green a few moments after J'nor was watching
him, a shy smile on his face. His green was full now, but was still
too curious to settle down and head over to their new barracks. J'nor
recognized the boy as Navaal - no N'vaal he corrected himself - from
their candidate classes. N'vaal had frequently poked fun at J'nor's
womanizing ways as a candidate.

"Did you know?" N'vaal asked softly. "Were all the girls just a front?"

J'nor shrugged. "Not really.... well, kinda. Coming from the Hold, I'd
never really entertained liking men until I was Searched. I have
always appreciated the attractiveness of other men, but I didn't
really think about it that much. It's certainly something to think
about. I am glad to have a few months to work that all out before
Zoranaith begins pursuing."

N'vaal smiled, noticing that his green was getting a bit tired. "I'd
better figure out where I am bunked," He said apologetically.
"Congratulations on Impressing!"

"You too," J'nor said with a weak smile. He walked further into the
Weyrling Barracks, searching for the area that he would be living in
for the foreseeable future. He felt an awkward pang in his stomach as
he remembered his father had been watching the Hatching. He knew that
Jeremias hoped his son would Impress Bronze, and he wasn't certain how
disappointed he'd be.

}:Why wouldn't he like me?:{ Zoranaith asked, and J'nor cursed himself
mentally for considering such things when his young dragon could
overhear them. He would have to consider it once Zoranaith was soundly
asleep.

**Don't worry about it, love. Let's get you to a couch.** J'nor
responded, smiling lovingly at his lifemate.
