J'darin

"Mrrrrrrrrrrrooow! Mrrrrrrrrrrrrooooow!"

**Shutup Hasaarth, I'm trying to sleep.**

}:Mmmphngh. As am I! :{

Blankets heaved and there was some motion in the large bed. A dark haired head popped into view and some very vile swearing could be heard, if you were listening.

Hasaarth and Oak were not listening.

"Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooow! Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!" Scratch, Scratch.

"What is that infernal noise? If I find out, Hasaarth, will you eat it?"

}:Only if you find it quietly.:{ Soon the rumbling breathing of Hasaarth in a deep sleep was all he heard. The bronzerider snorted inelegantly. "The least you could do is wake up when I am awake, you bronze lump." But there was no response.

Of course not.

They had flown intense drills all day yesterday with a crop of Weyrlings about to be Blooded. Then, this evening had been the actual Blooding. Worry was his constant companion during Blooding, and that had been before he and Hasaarth had been wounded. They were perfectly fine, according to all Healers. But the scars ached abominally when he used them the way he had yesterday, and he and Hasaarth - while not flying Thread - had been up in the air all evening watching for signs that their Weyrlings would all come back alive, tension in every wingbeat.

E'naer had finally told him to roost on the bowl floor and stop driving him to distraction with a great bronze dragon flying uneasy circles to help his rider with stress.

All that group had made it back, and they would all graduate. But would Thread take them and kill them? He had another group of Weyrlings from Onnyth's latest Clutch just starting month 2 of their training. What would happen to them?

All that in mind, it felt like he'd just laid down. He stood up, naked for the most part, and looked blearily around his dim weyr. Oak chittered angrily from the furs on the bed. He'd been helping clean the dirt of all day worry from Hasaarth's bronze hide and was just as exhausted in his way as were his "pets".

Where had the sound come from? "MROOOW!".

Ahh! The sound was coming from his wardrobe. "Mrroooooooooooooooooow! Mrrooow! Mroow!" The sound grew more intense, and J'darin hurried - well, he stumbled quickly - over to the wardrobe and fiddled with it, opening it.

A ball of fluff fell out, about the size of his two close fists, and dropped to the floor. It was... black...he thought... hard to tell in the dim light.

"What on Pern!? How did you get in there?"

IN answer, the black fluff scratched a long furrow on his ankle and zipped out beside him, purring loudly at its sudden freedom.

Purring?

Oh! It was a baby feline. Well, not a baby. A young one, though, about half way grown.

Zip! "Mrow!"

Out past Hasaarth, down the stairs, to the Weyrbowl. Their weyr was close to the ground, separated by one flight of stone stairs.

As the fluff passed the large bronze, he snorted warm air ruffling its fur.

}:Too small to eat.:{

Bemused, and not a little irritated at being so disturbed, even if the thing had been cute, J'darin shook his head and stumbled back to his bed to soothe his brown flit.

**I knew you weren't sleeping, big faker..** Fondness colored the thought though, and the bronzerider tried hard to resume his interrupted rest.

After about half a candlemark, though, he gave it up. The scratch on his ankle hurt _alot_ and he was going to have to tend it. Sighing, he got back out of bed, and went looking for his medical supplies. He kept a stash, like most riders, of some basic stuff.

"If that little ball of fluff comes back, Hasaarth, please step on it."
