Birigundi

Birigundi

Rigella had a long, tough day behind her in the infirmary. She was tired and dirty and headed for the bathing chambers as soon as she was finished with her duties. At first glance the hot bath pool was empty and she started to remove her clothes. She let her hair down and lowered herself to the pool with deep, relieved sigh. Her peace was broken, however, as Birigundi can in stripping off his sweaty tunic as he entered, fresh from a run. "Whew, that water looks really good."

"It's warm and does what it's supposed to," Rigella answered, letting the warmth relax her muscles. "As long as it can get me clean and beautiful, that's enough for me," he said as he grabbed his sweetsand and slipped into the water. "Yhm" Rigella agreed. Holding her nose, she slipped under the surface. **Oh, why, why It had to be Biri?** she thought. She knew his reputation as ladies man, they had stood in hatchings and failed together. She would rather bathed with someone who didn't drool after her. Like male greenrider.

Birigundi, on the other hand was more than happy with the company. He waited patiently for her to resurface. "So, Rigella," he said as he stretched his arms along the edge of the bathing pool, "tell me how the infirmary is treating you."

Rigella gave him rather unfriendly look. "Look, I have a hard day behind me, I've got vomit and blood on me and I'm not in a mood for small talk. So pass me the sand and a brush and shut up." "Shard it all, Rigella," he mumbled as he grabbed the brush and handed it to her. "Would it truly hurt you to be civil even _once_? What did I do to you?"

"Nothing. I just had a tough day," Rigella was suddenly regretting her harshness. "...and I'm snaping at people without reason, out of exhaustion." She started to wash her dark hair. "Yuck, I think I have that vomit in my hair." Sometimes she wondered if becoming a healer was worth of it all. Being someone's wife and having babies certainly sounded easier. It still didn't explain every other time he tried to talk together, he thought, but for the sake of peace he decided not to mention that. "Yeah, well, I guess we all have tough days sometimes."

Rigella just murmured something affirmative. She concentrated on getting herself clean. She had no intentions of make friends with him, or any other man in that matter. "So have you stopped Standing, then?" Birigundi asked as he rubbed sweetsand in his hair.

"Not really. I quess I keep standing until I'm too old. In a turn or so. I feel it's my duty to Stand when I live in Weyr. But I'm not trying very hard to impress. One rider in a family is enough," Rigella said. "But I think you'd make a good greenrider," he smiled. He certainly wouldn't mind having a dragon who could catch her. It would probably be his best chance, that was for sure. Then again, he's not sure _any_ guy had a chance with her yet... Maybe she was one of those who just didn't _like_ guys... Nah, that couldn't be it. Unless fate was playing a cruel joke on every male in the Weyr.

"My sister makes a good greenrider. I make a good healer," Rigella replied. Something in Birigundi reminded her of _that_ man from Onyx Hill's Hold. It made her feel uncomfortable. She could still see the sneer in his face and hear his mocking words: Oh, you're so innocent, little girl! He shrugged. "So you'd be a dragonrider with a few extra skills. You can still practice. And a little extra knowledge of anatomy never hurt anyone," he said with a teasing wink.

The healer apprentice just sighed, deeply. Didn't they ever stop? "Could you believe Y'ni Impressed a brown in that last Hatching?" he asked with a chuckle. "I always thought he would be a blue. Just goes to show you never know, huh? But he's planning to keep studying healing, isn't he?"

"I don't know. I haven't talked with him since he became weyrling," Rigella said. In the depths in her mind she wondered if she could do it: have sex without getting her heart involved in it. Other people did it, slept with someone and then walked away without looking back. But she rather doupted she could do it. She had too much of her mother's passion in her not to care. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure he said that he wanted to be a healer. Or a dragon healer..." He smiled at her. "So if I get threadscored someday will you help me?"

"Of course I will" Rigella replied and started to rinse her hair. **So much of relaxing bath,** she sighed.

Shards it was hard to keep his eyes on hers and lot let them slip south a bit... But he was raised to be a gentleman, unfortunately. "Well, if ever you want something run, you know you can always ask me. I might not even charge you."

"How nice of you," Rigella quite couldn't keep the sarcasm out from her voice. She got up from the pool and wrapped herself into a towel. Birigundi folding his arms on the edge of the bathing pool and rested his chin on them as he watched her. Finally he asked. "Just why do you hate me so much, Rigella? I'm a nice guy, I swear."

"Because you remind me of someone. Trust me, it's not a pleasant resemblance." "Well, whoever they are, Rigella, I'm _not_ them. I'm _me_."

Rigella shrugged. "Be careful how you treat your ladyfriends, Birigundi. One wrong move and you create someone like me: bitter and not able to trust any man," she cautioned. Birigundi frowned. "I have never mislead a woman. Especially not intentionally."

"Good," Rigella said and dressed up. "I'm going bed now, _alone_. G'night Birigundi." The thought of curling up in bed with no other company than a small flit didn't always sound so tempting.
