Characters: Sh'lua, Meyshan
Description: Sh'lua's brother gets Searched.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 8, day 5 of Turn 5

Searchriders often worked as pairs, mostly for security reasons. This time
Sh'lua was paired with young greenrider, fresh out of weyrlinghood, and
the reason was another one: the bluerider was supposed to train the
younger one and evaluate the Green's talents. The search took them to the
Tannercraft Hall. The landed on courtyard, and after receiving permission
for the Seach from the Hallmaster, they waited people to gather at the
yard. Sh'lua leaned against Galerith's leg, his stance relaxed. "Well, is
she founding anyone interesting?" the bluerider asked.

"Yes, him", the green rider replied and pointed a young journeyman who was
leading a group of apprentices towards them.

Sh'lua took a one look at the journeyman, "That figures," he snorted and
toppled over laughing.

"What? What's so amusing?" the puzzled greenrider asked. Sh'lua was
laughing too much to reply.

The journeyman in question had noticed them, and after saying something
for the apprentices, walked over to them. "What's going on?" he asked.

"Congratulations, journeyman, you have been Searched," the greenrider said
formally and very pleased with himself. The strawberry-blond journeyman
looked young enough to Stand and since he was journeyman, he would go
straight to the fighting wings.

"Really? " the journeyman was unfazed. He looked the laughing bluerider.
"Oh, get a grip of yourself, bro," he said.

"Bro?" greenrider asked.

"He-he is weyrbred, my half-brother, son of two dragonriders. You don't
have to Search him. He's been Standing since he was twelve," Sh'lua
managed to explain, wiping away laughing tears.

"Oh," the greenrider was blushing with embarrassment.

"Well, it's been over a Turn since I last tried," Meyshan said. "Maybe I
should try this time, since she seems to think I have the potential. I
presume the Eggs in Dragonsfall are the reason you're here?"

The greenrider nodded and looked from brother to brother. "You don't look
that much alike."

"Different mothers, same father," Meyshan shrugged.

"Oh, this is rare, wait until rest of us hear this," Sh'lua chuckled.

The young greenrider hung his head. "Never mind him," Meyshan said and
patted his shoulder comfortingly. "What Galerith is doing?"

The blue dragon had suddenly moved, nearly pushing his rider down and now
his muzzle was cornering a young woman who had just come out from kitchen
door.

"Ah, he's found someone. Do you know who it is, Meyshan?" Sh'lua asked.

Meyshan stood on his tiptoes to see over the dragons neck. The girl was
bitting her lip but she didn't look frightened. She looked like she
wondered if she could pat the dragon's nose in front of her. "She's Odyne,
one of the kitchen girls. She's nice."

"Know her well?" Sh'lua asked with a leery wink, she was a pretty one.

"Well, might have flirted with her once or twice..."

"True son of our father!" Sh'lua gave him a playful nudge.

"Just flirting, she is a good girl", Meyshan added sheepishly. He didn't
want to give them false image.

Sh'lua went to tell her the good news.

"She's coming with us, went to pack," he reported when he returned to
Meyshan and the young Searchrider. "Are you coming with us, Mey? Or do we just pick you up when the Eggs
start to rock?"

Meyshan scratched his ear. "Well, I don't think I need the candidate
lessons, so you just come to get me when's the time, all right?"

"All right, bro," Sh'lua slapped his back. "Come you, let's look around
some more, perhaps she founds more weyrbreds," he tugged the green rider's
sleeve.

"Ach, give him a rest, will you," Meyshan snorted and waived the off.
