Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 2 of Turn 5
As usual, the time and climate difference between Dolphin cove Weyr and Dragonsfall Weyr took Sh'lua by surprise when the arrived to the air above the weyr plateau. }: She is waiting for us, :{ Galerith said and Sh'lua knew who he meant even without name. The blue circled down and landed to the plateau. It didn't take him long to dismount and soon he was embracing Cebene. She was his ex-weyrmate and mother of two of his children. She was few turns older than he was, an attractive, seasoned greenrider.
"Thank Faranth you are here!" Cebene said.
"What's the news?" Sh'lua asked.
"Nothing new. Shaene is staying with him right now. I'll let the healers tell you exactly what happened to Cebs." The childhood nickname came from her naturally, coloured with the worry she was feeling.
Cebene led him to the infirmary. On the way, Sh'lua realized that last time he had been to Dragonsfall Weyr had been for Shaene's graduation to the Fighting wing.
C'lua had been placed to private room reserved to most severe cases. Their daughter sat at his bed, holding her brother's bandaged hand. First thing Sh'lua noticed from his son was that his face was completely covered with bandage; the second was his laboured breathing.
"Dad!" Shaene said.
"Sha-sha," Sh'lua gave his daughter a fierce hug.
While they caught up, Cebene went to fetch a healer. She returned with the Weyrhealer.
"So, you're C'lua's father?" Telemon asked.
"Yes, I'm bluerider Sh'lua." " I'm master healer Telemon."
"Can you tell me what happened to my son? How bad off he is?"
"As far as we know, he got a large Thread clump into his face and another one hit his dragon," Telemon sighed sadly. "It's serious, I am afraid. The Thread ate thru his goggles and basically he lost his face and eyes. He was also hit to arms, but that damage is relatively minor one."
"Lost his face, eyes? You mean he is blind?" Sh'lua asked and The weyrhealer nodded. "And his breathing? It seems so laboured?"
"Unfortunately, we don't know for sure. Either he somehow inhaled Thread, and it got to his lungs " In which case the young mans changes of survival were non-existent. "Or he inhaled Thread-ash, which can also damage the lung tissue. We are keeping him unconscious at the moment."
Sh'lua grimaced. It didn't sound very promising. At the best case, C'lua would be crippled for rest of his life. He had been such handsome young man.
After the healer left, Sh'lua sat a long while at his son's bedside. Finally just watching his wheezing, forced breathing got to his nerves and he went to check on C'lua's brown Tarth. He found the brown from the dragon infirmary, curled up and sleeping. His hide had unhealthy grey shade.
"How is Tarth?" he asked the dragonhealer on duty.
"Resting. He is weak from ichor-loss. He lost a neck ridge," she told him and Sh'lua noticed the bandage covered gap in the brown's neck. "He will make a full recovery if his rider lives," she continued and scratched the sleeping brown's eye ridge gently. "His rider is much worse off, or so I heard."
Sh'lua nodded. "He's fighting for his life," he said and felt his throat close up with grief and worry. She gave him sympathising smile and said: "If we lose the rider, we will lose the dragon."
}: I'm still sitting here, on my straps, bags on my back :{ Galerith interrupted him tartly.
**Oh, Faranth! I'm so sorry. I come right away! **, Sh'lua had completely forgotten his own lifemate.
