Description: Oresthon is somewhere where he isn't supposed to be and talks with Carlan.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 4, day 7 of Turn 5
Oresthon knew well he was on forbidden grounds. Junior apprentices
weren't allowed to leave the Hall compound. But after months in Smith
hall, he missed music. So he deliberately left off his knots and snuck
away from the hall, entering the Hold, looking for the harpers. If he
got lucky, he might catch them practising for performances.
Unfortunately, he didn't know his way around the Garnet Valley hold
and got lost. He just stood in middle of corridor, looking around
bewildered. The place was so much bigger than his home-hold!
The lad looked lost, thought the Harper. "Can I help you?"
"Yes, sir. I'm looking for the harpers, sir," Oresthon replied.
"Well you found one, how can I help?"
Now that he had one, he didn't know what to say. "Well, I was
thinking...are you preforming any music today?" he asked hopefully and
bit uncertainly.
"At dinner tonight." There was usually something in an evening, maybe not
formally every night, but most people enjoyed a tune or two.
Oresthon looked disappointed. It was too late for him. He had to be
back at the hall at the dinner time or he would be missed.
"Anything else I can help you with?" asked the Harper. Maybe he was a new
arrival here, perhaps to take up an apprenticeship and was simply trying to
learn his way around.
"Is there any chance I could borrow some of your instruments?"
Oresthon asked shyly.
"You're a harper?" asked Carlan curiously.
"No, but I wish to be, one day," Oresthon replied. He was lucky
enought to look young, so young he might be interprited too young to
apprentice yet.
"Well if you come back sometime, you can show me what you can do. And then,
with your parent's permission I can write to the hall for you about an
apprenticeship."
"Well, that might be bit difficult," Oresthon said with a frown. "They
want me to learn another craft."
Carlan thought for a moment. "Which craft?" he asked.
Oresthon saw no reason to lie in that matter. "Smith," he replied and
made a face.
"You should talk to them," advice the Harper would give anyone. "Once you
explain to them, you might find they'll listen."
"Shaping metal with bare hands would be easier," the lad snorted.
"Then have them come and talk to me."
"I can try," Oresthon said with roll of his eyes and doupt in his
voice. "The problem is that we're aren't locals here."
"I'm sure that we can talk to them together," Carlana said. "Don't worry
about that, just see if they are willing to talk to me about your
apprenticeship."
"They probably aren't," Oresthon said gloomily and pushed his hands
deep into his pocket and hunched his shoulders. "Look, I better get
going before I'm missed," he said. **Or before I talk myself deeper
into a burrow.**
"If you change your mind, or if they change their mind my office door is
always open."
"I'll remember that, sir." Oresthon said. "I hope we'll see again.
Bye," Oresthon said and ran off along the corridor. He didn't get to
listen to music, but at least he had met a harper. But now he had to
hurry back to the Hall before he was missed. Perhaps he could snuck
off again some other time.
