It was storming outside, but that didn't matter to the bronzerider. He
had plans to spend the afternoon with some of his favorite people. His
daughters had brought him such joy when they were growing up, but he
marveled at the love he had for his son and grandchildren. Daril was
almost a turn old and his youngest grandson was five turns. His life
had changed so much in a turn both for the best and in some cases for
the worse.

Two of his sisters had moved back to the Weyr to foster his son and
his grandchildren. His son had been born and he had almost lost the
boy's mother. They were still very close, but something had changed in
their relationship that he couldn't figure out. His reflections were
interupted by the arrival of his family.

His oldest granddaughter, Jaysira, had his son, Daril, in her arms.
She was going to be a candidate at the next hatching. Her younger
sisters were dreaming of the day that they could get their chance at
becoming dragonriders. "There's you're da, Daril!" she said with a
grin as she handed him over to the bronzerider.

"How's my boy?" he asked not expecting an answer from the young boy.
He was babbling, but no words yet. He had taken a step or two, but
still preferred crawling all over the place. Even though he saw the
boy at least every other day, Daril always looked bigger than the last
time D'wrayt had seen him.

"Your boy is getting into things." piped up ten turn old Raeysi.

"Is that so? What is he getting into, my girl?"

She thought a moment and replied, "He crawled over my picture that I
was drawing for you granda."

Baylaina's laughter floated in from the doorway as she emerged with
the rest of her charges. Her great nieces and nephews were an
interesting bunch that was for sure. She always had some new story
about one of the children to relate to their brother. The weyr seemed
rather crowded with six children and two adults.

"Daril is a normal toddler, brother. Don't you listen to those
children." she said brandishing a smile for her younger sibling. They
had always been close and she had never regretted coming back to live
at Dragonsfall. In fact, she thought that it was the best move she had
made in her life. She recently met a dragonrider who has stopped by on
more than one occassion.

D'wrayt just chuckled and tossed the boy into the air to get him
giggling. He then handed off the boy to his sister in favor of
greeting his grandchildren properly. The two boys were quick to hug
him and then dash off towards Treadorryth's ledge to play with the
napping bronze.

Ekaylin was a little more reserved than usual, but she had always been
a quite child. However, she had flourished living here at the weyr and
he hoped that in time she would shed her quiet exterior. "How are you,
Kay?" he asked crouching down to look her in the eyes and brush away
the strand of hair that always seemed to hang in her eyes.

The young girl smiled and replied, "I'm fine, granda. I learned a new
song."

"Would you sing it for me sometime, love?" he asked knowing that she
wouldn't sing in front of her siblings. When she nodded, he ruffled
her hair affectionately.

Daril had promptly made his way to the bronzerider's leg tugging on it
demandingly as soon as he had been set down. D'wrayt scooped him back
into his arms and looked at his sister, "What shall we do to celebrate
his birthingday?" he asked curiously. If he could get away with it, he
would invite the whole Weyr to a celebration of the day the his son
had been born, but he wouldn't embarass his family like that.

"I was going to ask his mama what she wanted to do. You want to tell
the whole Weyr don't you?" she replied as she knew her brother well.
When he celebrated something, he did it on a grand scale more often
than not.

"Laina, would I do something like that?" he asked feigning shock that
she would dare to think ill of him.

"I beleive you would." she countered with a grin.

"Okay, I might have thought about it _briefly_. Jaysira, check on
Wulkiryn and Geryn please." he hadn't heard anything from the boys and
Treadoryth hadn't complained about them disturbing him. Not that the
bronze would complain about too much attention from the children.

Geryn came running into the main weyr. "I'm hungry." he said with
tears starting to brim in his eyes. He was an emotional young boy who
tended to cry at the thought of being in discomfort.

D'wrayt stood up with Daril squirming in his arms. "Children, I
believe we are ready to have a meal. Who wants to come eat with me?"
he asked which got him a chorus of me and I want to. With a beckoning
wave to his sister, he headed towards the dining cavern with his son
and grandson in tow.
