Trealeina pushed her breakfast around on her plate, thinking again about her problem. How was she going to prepare herself for her first mating flight. She would have liked for it to be R'len, but the hatching came before they
could get together. Tamineth's first flight will arrive long before Solanth is ready.
}:why do you worry about it so. I will chose wisely, my mates rider will not be a bad one, because I will not choose a bad mate.:{ the green said confidently.
**I wish it were that simple Tam, It's just that I have never been with a man before. I grew up where girls don't have sex until they are married. So it is just a little scary for me. I have always thought my first time would be something special, not something to fear.**
}:why would you fear it. It will be grand. I will fly high, and fast. only the best male will catch me. And his rider will be the best for you:{ she told her rider again with such confidence that Trealeina had to smile.
**Well I hope you are right in that respect. I have heard so many bad stories about first mating flights. I just wish I had the nerve to take that first step. I would like to at least to have had a little experience before the time comes.**
She thought again of her conversation with Karri a few months before graduation. ' A friend' she had said, 'some one that she knew.' She wasn't really comfortable asking one of her friends for fear that it would ruin the friendship if they were not a dragon rider like her. **I will have to just take it as it comes. If the opportunity presents itself, I will take it** she told herself.
~*~
The young man sat drinking a small cup of wine a few tables away from the young woman he had been watching. She seemed to be too preoccupied to eat. Her long dark hair hung over her shoulders but she wore riding gear, so she was a green rider. He wondered what was going through her thoughts.
She seemed a little sad, or maybe worried. he couldn't tell for sure. He watched her body move as she heaved a heavy sigh and continued to push her food around her plate. What he wouldn't give to have her by his side, she was beautiful.
He wondered it she would think him too forward if he asked her to a private dinner this evening. His cousin had told him there were no drills this evening. It took him a few minutes to get up the courage to go over to talk to her. He picked up his cup and slowly approached the still preoccupied girl.
Trealeina looked up from her plate at the sound of approaching footsteps. He was not from here,The colors on his shoulder knot said he was a brown rider from River Bluff Weyr. She watched him as he came toward her direction. At first she thought maybe there was someone sitting close to her that he was coming to, but she looked around and there was no one else around her.
She got a good look at him as he came closer. He was very tall with light brown hair that was at least shoulder length, his nose was a little crooked, but his lips were not small, but not large either. Even as far away as he
was she could see the deep blue eyes that were set off by his tanned skin. In all he was rather attractive.
For some reason he was walking right toward her. She blinked in surprise as he sat in the seat next to her. "Is someone sitting here?" he asked her in an almost bass voice.
"um, well, now there is." she smiled. "I don't think I have seen you here before" she added brows wrinkled and tilting her head a little to the right.
"I am sure that I have never seen you before. I came here to visit a cousin. He will otherwise be occupied for the evening. But I thought I would hang around and enjoy a change of scenery." He smiled warmly hoping to make her feel a little more at ease than she seemed to be. "Why is a pretty girl like you eating alone?"
"I usually hang out with some friends, but I was behind schedule today. So, here I am." she waved her hand in the air to the empty chairs around her.
"I hope you don't mind the company?" he paused, "Where are my manners," he said looking first at the ceiling then back into eyes. "my name is Mi'lane, rider of brown Nimath." he said holding out his hand.
"I'm Trealeina, rider of green Tamineth" she held out her hand to take his in a handshake. He, however, taking her hand in his, turned it to place a gentle kiss on the back of her hand. Trealeina could feel heat race from her
neck to the top of her head in a matter of seconds.
As he looked up into her green eyes. "It is very nice to meet you Trealeina, rider of green Tamineth."
Trealeina took in a sharp breath. Those eyes and the feel of his soft lips on the back of her hand, was nothing like she had felt before. He was close enough now that she could smell his cologne. It was not heavy, or strong, but subtle and could only be noticed if he were close.
"I am going to meet with my cousin in a few minutes, But I would really enjoy my evening here if you would join me for dinner. I could meet you here, and we can go from there." he said confidently.
"Sure, that sounds great. I will meet you here around the seventh candlemark?" she suggested hoping she did not sound too eager. He was certainly nice to look at, and he seemed to be nice.
"Perfect" he kissed her hand again before standing to leave. "till then lovely green rider" he smiled showing white, even teeth, then turned to go out of the cavern. He paused just before going through the doorway to look back in her direction, then he stepped through and was out of sight.
}: who was that?:{ Tamineth almost demanded.
**His name is Mi'lane. He seems very nice. He is the rider of a brown named Nimath. With a little luck, he will help me to solve my problem.** she smiled to herself.
}:Nimath? I do see a brown that I don't know. That must be him.:{
** why don't you go talk with him, see what he is like**
}:ok, sounds like fun. maybe he will go for a swim with me:{ she said with a little mischief in her voice.
R'len stood in the kitchens entrance. He had just stepped out of the kitchen to bring Trealeina something to help cheer her up when he saw the rider sit next to her. Then the strange rider was too close to her for his comfort. **
What is she doing with that rider?**
The rider got up and left, R'len took a deep breath. Perhaps it was nothing, maybe she knew him from before or something. He started toward her table again. Then to his surprise, she got up, emptied her plate and left.
She didn't even look back.
