Taking her hand in a solid handshake, D'yrne met her green eyes as he asked,
"So how long have you been in the Weyr, Trealeina?"
"A little over a turn now. I was lucky to have found Tamineth on my first
stand on the sands." **Nice firm grip, he has.** she thought as she met his
gray eyes. "and your handsome brown ?" she smiled as their hands separated.
"I also Impressed the first time I stood," he paused then grinned, "
Twenty-two turns ago. I was twelve at the time. Quirinyth and I have watched
many a sunrise together." He looked fondly over at his lifemate who was now
circling the herd again.
"You were twelve when you impressed?" she said a little awed. While she had
heard of people impressing that young, somehow it just seemed impressive.
"You are from the Weyr then, to have impressed that young. Was it an
unexpected impression, or were they allowing ones so young to stand?" she
asked, she loved to hear about impressions."
"Yes, I was born and raised in the Weyr. My father was a dragonrider. This
was well before Thread returned, you understand. Very different times," he
shook his head, not wanting to get melancholy on Trealeina. "And where were
you before the Weyr?"
"I grew up on a little farming cothold just east of here, close enough to
the Azov sea to take frequent trips to the beach, which is where I impressed
my two firelizards, who are being lazy this morning." she gave a lopsided
grin at the thought of the two still sleeping in her bed.
"And how does your dragon get on with the little ones?"
Trealeina wrinkled her nose a little, "She really doesn't get bothered by
them, maybe because I had them before I impressed."
"Firelizards have never bothered Quirinyth at all, either. In fact he rather
likes them," D'ryne answered. "So have you found the adjustment to Weyrlife
an easy one or rather a challenge?"
"I have to admit, it was rather a challenge at first. It took me a little
while to get over the whole community bathing thing." she said as her ears
turned a little pink. "I used to watch the bathing pools until there was not
quite so many people around before I would take a bath. At least until I
figured out that it was a part of everyday life for those who had lived here
all their lives, and there was really nothing to be embarrassed about." she
looked out toward Tamineth who seemed to be taking her time and enjoying her
meal.
D'ryne chuckled. "I can imagine that would be quite a change. Not something
those of us who were born and raised here think about much." If bathing
arrangements had been awkward for her, he wondered how experienced the young
woman was. Surely experienced _enough_. He looked at the green dragon and
thought back to the clutches in the past turn. She probably had not risen
for her first mating flight but would soon, and that was not the best time
for a young woman to have her first sexual experience. He gave himself a
mental shake. The weyrling staff would have advised Trealeina on the matter
and as she was a very attractive young woman, certainly she had had the
opportunity to gain some familiarity with men.
"I still get a little self conscious when I know I am being looked at
though. Just not for the same reason as when I first got to the Weyr." she
laughed even though she could feel her ears turning pink again.
"Well, I am sure you get more than your share of looks," he said, relieved
that it seemed she did indeed have at least some experience. "And that can
be disconcerting for anyone, weyrbred _or_ holdbred." Given the young
woman's figure and attractiveness, D'ryne guessed she got plenty of male
attention.
"I suppose so." she said with a smile. She wondered if he had a weyrmate. He
was attractive, especially his dimple, but she mostly liked the shape of his
face. It made Trealeina think again about Tamineths first mating flight. "Do
you have a weyrmate?" She flushed at the question, one at being so bold as
to ask the question, and second at not wanting to pry into his personal
life, but she was considering him as a potential for helping her get some
experience with men.
"I do not," he said, wondering how many men would commit to a sunrise
breakfast if they did. Well, actually, come to think of it there might be a
few here in the Weyr who would. It was thoughtful of her to ask, though, and
certainly let him know the direction of her thoughts. "Which will make our
restday all the more pleasant, I think," he said, gray eyes sparkling with a
hint of blue. "For now, though, Quirinyth is done, and sadly I need to think
about getting to drills. I will be anticipating restday, however. Shall we
meet on the plateau?"
"As will I" she said with a smile. "How about half past the 5th candle
mark?" she smiled looking into his grey eyes, which now seemed to have just
a hint of blue. "I will have to get ready for drills myself, as soon as
Tamineth is ready. It was certainly a pleasure meeting you D'ryne" she said
as she put her hand out once more for a parting handshake.
"The pleasure was mine, Trealeina, and half past the 5th candlemark is
perfect," he answered, catching her hand, but rather than a firm handshake,
he raised it to his lips for a gentle kiss.
