"Well, hello there little lady." The girl had caught his attention. Her black hair seemed to be swallowed in the shadows of the corner where she stood and her brown eyes were glazed from too much to drink. She was a little bony, perhaps, a little too angular, but she was still pretty - not as pretty as the new Lady Warder, but pretty enough. Regardless, she looked pretty out of it and that appealed to the man more than anything else. "And what, pray tell, is a pretty little thing like you doing all by your lonesome self in a corner?"
Talmina looked up at the man. He wasn't handsome, but he had a masculine quality about him that drew her interest. "Waiting for someone to ask me to dance."
"Well then, I suppose you can stop waiting." The man slid a hand around her waist and drew her along. "I'm Sypher. And may I have the honour of knowing with whom I am dancing?"
"Talmina." she giggled as she stepped out with him. She saw her cousin Briata on the dance floor with her new husband and she momentarily frowned. It should have been _her_ that the Lord Warder had married, but the fool hadn't even given her a second look. She didn't think her cousin was any more pretty than she was, so she must have done something else do draw his attention. Well... she had someone to pay attention to her now, let the old fool of a Warder watch them on the dance floor and regret his decision.
"Talmina..." Sypher drew the name out, letting it roll over his lips. "Such a pretty name to go with a pretty face." He took up the proper stance and drew Talmina in close to him. "So tell me a bit about yourself, Talmina, and why you were fluttering around the wall like that when you should have been dancing away out here instead."
She let the flattery flow over her, this is what she should have been hearing from Ishek. She giggled again, briefly wondering if she'd had too much to drink then realizing she didn't care. "I was waiting for you. For a real man who'd know a good thing when he saw it."
"I'm as real as they come." The man fairly purred into her ear. "My question is, where have _you_ been?" Sypher swept her across the floor. He drew her off of it just long enough to snatch a drink and press it into her hand, then back out, only to keep to the edges where he had more control over the speed of their dance. "Are you from Garnet Valley, or here only for the festivities?"
"I'm here. I work in the kitchens." She took a drink. She wanted to be in the center of the dance floor where Ishek would be sure to see her, but she supposed she could stay to the side until she'd finished her wine. "I haven't seen you before, where are you from?"
"Oh, here and there. I travel a lot." Sypher eventually guided her off of the dance floor and moved her over to a spot that would afford them a modest amount of privacy, grabbing another drink for her as he passed by a serving drudge. "I've been to Garnet valley many times, however."
Talmina hadn't finished the glass she had, but took the fuller one with a smile. "I've never seen you." She wondered if he was a holder, if she could catch the attention of a holder, that would be almost as good as a Lord Warder.
"Well, perhaps we just haven't had the pleasure of being in the same place at the same time." Sypher took up a drink for himself, though he tasted it slowly. "Garnet Valley is a large hold, after all."
"Do you have a large hold?" She asked, trying to sound uninterested and sexy at the same time.
"Now how did you know about my hold?" Sypher laughed and offered his mostly full glass to Talmina when he saw that she had finished hers.
She grinned, she'd guessed right, she knew it. "I'm just intuitive like that." She was about to say more but the room started spinning slightly and she had to grab onto Sypher's arms for balance. "Oh, I think that wine is going to my head, maybe we should sit down for a moment?"
"Of course." Sypher glanced around, his arm tightening around her waist. "It's so stuffy here, why don't we go where we can get some fresh air. That ought to help your head as well."
"Okay." He was such a gentleman, not like that Ishek. She gave a backwards glance at the dance floor where she saw her cousin and her new husband again and sniffed. She'd show them.
