"An evening to ourselves!" The excitement over that prospect was evident in
Nikanna's voice. One of the kitchen workers had complained that she liked to
go to bed early but felt anti-social if she did not participate in the
Turnover festivities. For this reason, the older woman enjoyed choosing a
young couple or two and offering them an opportunity to enjoy themselves
while she looked after their children, giving herself an excuse to remain in
her quarters.

"That's worth more than all the marks I have right now." Perhaps it was a
bit of an over dramatic reply from the harper, but Turn's End was a busy
time for him. A lot of music to be played while people danced. Sometimes he
was hard pressed to find a moment for himself, and when Nikanna had told him
that someone had offered to watch Ryannae... Well it just meant that he
could spend that moment with his wife.

"It will be so much fun to be able to listen to you and to dance when you
don't have to play! Just like old times." Not that those old times were so
long ago, only two years. And in those times they had to be mindful of
Nikanna's parents and their disapproval. She squeezed his arm in excitement.
"To be able to eat and drink some wine without having to worry that Ryannae
will need something. And then to be able to spend time alone with you!" As
she enumerated all of her plans for the evening, she remembered just how
much she had been missing as she devoted her time to their daughter.

"Maybe I can ask them to play our song?" He smiled at her, this time maybe
he could dance with her as the music was played by other Harpers there. "It
would be a nice way to bring in the new Turn."

"Our song." She smiled at the memory of that song, the one that she had
requested back in the Hold, the song that would remind him that she was
thinking of him, a message that could be passed right in front of her
parents without their knowledge. "Could we do that? It would be so different
to actually be together when it's being played."

"I have an 'in' with the Harpers," he said with a smile. "Leave that one to me."

Her attention was already on something else. "And we can toast the new Turn
without worrying about being clear-headed if Ryannae wakes!"

"I'm sure she'll be well looked after, and be only too glad to see us in the
morning."

"And I'll be glad to see her as well." Nikanna turned to nuzzle his chin.
"But tonight is for just the two of us."

"Definitely," he said softly, agreeing with her, before moving slightly to
allow his lips to meet hers.
