"So R'len, are you going to be keeping the long hair or have the boys
convinced you to close crop it like the rest of them?" Karri asked as she
walked up upon him and Solanth.

R'len turned to face the voice approaching him. He smiled when he recognized
her. " Oh, hi Karri. I have been thinking about cutting it. I am told that
it is kind of uncomfortable to have long hair under the riding gear." His
smile broadened as he turned back to his tending Solanth.

"Oh I don't know." she replied with a toss of her longish hair. "You get
used to it. But it does tangled if you don't tuck it in or braid it."

"I guess I could braid it. When I think about it, I really don't want to cut
it ....yet. I suppose I will just have to wait and see." he reached up to
pull his hair back away from his face again. "what brings you out here?" he
asked as he continued to inspect Solanth's hide.

Karri noticed that the brown had just been oiled and that his hide was nice
and patch-free. "I was talking with a few of the girls. Some of them came
just before the impression and are having a bit of a time adjusting."

"Really? Adjusting in what way?" he turned toward Karri again. "I know that
sometimes it can be hard to get used to such a large place. If had not grown
up here, I know it would have been hard for me." he said thoughtfully. "Do
you think there is some way I could help? Sometimes a warm fresh pastry
helps me." he said with a twinkle in his eye.

"Being a supportive friend always helps." Karri wasn't about to betray the
girl's trust by informing others of their problems. "And your pastries
always make me feel better."

He looked Solanth over one more time, finally satisfied with his work. He
watched as the young brown started to slowly nod off, one set of eyelids
closing at a time. **rest well, brave one** he could feel Solanth's mind
slowly setting in to a state of sleep.

He turned once again to Karri. "Well, I would be willing to help in any way
that I could. If all it takes is a sweet, I am more than happy to make a
batch of bubbly pies, those are my favorites by far." he said with a smile
rubbing his stomach.

Karri chuckled, "I'm sure you'll make fast friends with all your clutchmates
if you start supplying them with bubblies."

R'len let out a hardy chuckle. " Of that I am sure. I am also sure you
didn't come out here to talk about bubblies and sweets, is there something
in particular you had in mind?" he asked curiously, his left eyebrow hiking
up.

"Well since you're offering..." the greenrider replied, "be a dear and make
friends with the red head over there." She motioned back towards the girls
she'd been talking to eariler. "She's from a small hold and doesn't know a
thing about this place, much less anyone in it."

R'len tried to discretly look around Karri to see who she was talking about
"OK" he said cheerfully. "Whats her name, and is she ok with a direct
aproach, or do I need to wait until she is in less of a group before I
introduce myself?"

The greenrider chuckled, "Why don't you try to make it seem like I _didn't_
put you up to it. Her name's Pristin."

R'len laughed out loud. " Of course, Perhaps when I see her in the kitchen
during evening chores. I am sure at some point she will have to show up
there. I will keep an eye open for her and bring her a special surprise.
How's that?"

"Sounds perfect." Karri grinned and gave the weyrling a quick peck on the
cheek. "I'll see you later."

"Your welcome" he chuckled to himself as Karri walked away.
