"Well, this is a first for me." he said with a nervous chuckle, running his hand through his hair. " I have never had a woman approach me before." he let out a breath of relief, she had just spoken what he was so adehmnetly trying to find the words to ask her.

**Oh, by Faranth, what have I done? He will never speak to me again** she groaned to herself. " I will understand if you don't want to" she added hurriedly. Her hands flying to cover her face.

Tamineth looked over at Trealeina, }:you are upset again:{ Tamineth told her worry on the edge of her thoughts.

**well, yes and no, my dearest, I am merely trying to find a solution to a problem. Please continue for a little while longer while I finish my talk with Rendalen. But thank you for your concern my dearest**

Trealeina could feel Rendalen's hands on hers. His touch sent tingles down her spine. He gently pried her hands away from her face, then put one hand under her chin and lifted her head so that she was looking into his eyes
once again.

}:you are upset again. What has he done to you:{ Tamineth demanded of her rider

This time Rendalen noticed that Tamineth had stopped playing, even though there were almost a half dozen other dragons in the water with her. He looked over at Tamineth then back at Trealeina.

"She is only worried that you have upset me." she told him. Then told her lifemate **do not worry my sweet, it is nothing he has done. Finish your game, we will have to oil you soon so that we can go to class**

He let go of her hands then looked anywhere but at her. "Why would you ask me to do this, I mean, you could ask anyone." he told her.

She felt terrible. She had offended him, and she was not sure what to do now. "I will understand if you don't want to speak to me anymore." She said, her head hanging. "I am sorry I asked you, I should have known better."

At first he was offended and almost got angry. Then he realized what it meant. "You have never been with a man before have you?" he asked softly.

"No" she said eyes once again on the ground. She took a deep breath. "I know that Tamineth will be rising soon, and I am scared. I didn't want my first time to be out of control and me not know what it was supposed to be like. I have heard so many horror stories. I don't want to be one who is scared every time my dragon rises to mate." The words poured out of her mouth before she could stop them. There she had said it. And she hoped to Faranth
that she had not offended him.

She looked up at him again, fear, and worry dominated her thoughts.

"Don't' be sorry, I am not offended. But first I must ask you something. Do you want to be with me, or is it because you want some one to help you.?"

She was almost of the verge of tears now. She feared she had turned him away. "Well, both. I have been thinking about this for the last 3 nights. And every time I thought about how to approach it, the only person that came
to mind was you."

"Don't you think it would be better to get a more experienced rider to help you though this. I mean, dealing with dragon lust is much stronger than being with someone who is not a dragonrider, he would be able to talk you
through it, guide you."

"No." she shook her head sternly. "I need to be clear minded on my first time. I want to experience it with someone I care about, no other emotions in the way."

Rendalen took in a deep breath. He had wanted this so badly for so long now, but he knew she would not stray from what was right for her dragon. Once she became a senior weyrling, he had not been able to get up the courage to approach her. Now, he was a candidate, and was not supposed to be involved
with another, but as he did not live in the barracks, no one would be the wiser. Her face still in his hand, he gently stroked her cheek with his thumb. "I wish I could have told you before, how much I care about you. How
I feel when you are close."

Trealeina's body stiffened, she had never guessed that he felt that way about her. It had been very clear to her from the beginning, that green riders may not be able to keep a mate for very long. It was unusual , even for a gold to be caught by the same male. She had resigned herself to just take things as they came.

Now she realized too late, the damage had been done. She looked up at him again, " I am sorry Rendalen, but I can not commit to a relationship. Even if you Impressed, it would be a year before your dragon would be ready to
rise to a mating challenge. Tamineth would have risen several times by then." she said softly and sadly. "I
could not ask you to put your feelings on hold for that. I know they have told you about this in Candidate classes."

His hand slipped from her face, and she turned away so he would not see her cry, because now the tears were steaming uncontrollably down her cheeks. She had not meant to hurt him, but she was sure that she had. She would find another dragonrider, one that would know how to be gentle and help her through it. Maybe she could talk to the Weyrlingmaster, and get his thoughts on this.

He placed his hands on her shoulders and turned her around again to face him. "You are right, they have told us those things in Candidate classes. But that does not change the way I feel about you, and I understand the
problems that comes with those kinds of situations. Besides, if I do manage to Impress, It will be the same for me. I will have to accept that I will not be with just one person through my whole life" He paused for a moment
then dared to take her in his arms and held her tightly, she returned his embrace.

He breathed in her sweet scent and spoke softly to her. "Please don't cry, I know this was very hard for you. I don't pretend to know how you feel, because I was not raised in the same way you were." He released his hold on her and leaned back, still keeping one hand on her waist, so that he could see her green eyes, and wiped the tears from her cheek with the other. " I really do understand. I will not pressure you for a commitment, I would ask that you continue to be my friend and lover for as long as our time allows, and maybe when my dragon is old
enough, he will be able to catch her more than once." He said with a smile as he looked over to where her dragon and firelizards were still playing.

She smiled at his efforts. He truly was a gentle and understanding person. She thought about it for a few minutes. "Ok, I can agree to that. as long as we agree on the fact that there is no firm commitment. " she smiled, feeling
better now, but it still worried her a little that she would become emotionally attached, or that he would
and cause problems down the line.

"Now, my pretty green eyed rider, how would you like to proceed?" He asked with a twinkle in his eye, and a sly grin on his face. She could not help but giggle a little. He was trying hard to make her feel better.

"I …..don't know …..I have never done this before, remember?" she said hesitantly.

"Right, sorry. In which case I will work on that part." He gave her another sly grin.

"Thank you Rendalen. I really didn't know how else to do it, and I was really very scared of waiting until the last minute."

"Sshhhh, it's alright," he said gently holding her close again, "I understand. I will be more that happy to show how it should be done."
