"Hi U'kaiah," Karri said with a grin as she joined him at a table.
"How's the proud papa doing?"
"Beaming," the bronze's rider smiled. "And flirting shamelessly with
every female who flutters past."
Karri chuckled, "Well, it's a good thing Onnyth isn't the jealous type
then."
"I think she's a little preoccupied," he said with a knowing wink.
"Maybe just a smidgen." Karri agreed. "Not for long though, those eggs
should hatch soon."
"Not soon enough," U'kaiah sighed, wanting more than anything to watch
the birth of his lifemates offspring. "I just hope there's at least one
bronze in the lot."
The greenrider gave him a dirty look, "Don't talk like that. I lost a
mark on the egg count bet, but I can more than make that up if we get
three bronzes. So think metallic!" she added enthusiastically.
"_Three_ bronzes?" he asked with a surprised chuckle. She must not like
her marks that much if she would throw them away so easily. "You have
way too much faith in my lifemates virility. I like it," he added with
a wink.
She gave him a playful shove, "Oh you! It's faith in your _dragon's_
virility, not yours. Besides, that's where the odds promised the best
payout." It was her first time playing the pools on these sorts of
things, and while she hadn't won anything yet, she figured she had to
eventually!
"Well, you know what they say, like dragon like rider," he said with an
overly smug grin. U'kaiah leaned in to whisper, "And you do have a
little inside knowledge in that account."
Karri rolled her eyes, "Not that much, you've bedded half the Weyr!"
"Only the female half," he said with a wink.
She grabbed a piece of fruit off his plate and popped it in her mouth,
"So where are you off to next?"
"Hmmm," he hummed thoughtfully. "I'm not sure. Where are you going?
Maybe I'll just follow you..."
"Follow me if you like, but you'll get bored." she replied with a
resigned shrug, "The candidate classes this afternoon are dealing with
emotional wellness."
"That sounds about as exciting as the wingrider evaluations I'm writing
up today," the bronzerider sighed. "Are you sure you're not going to
some tropical island where we can strip off our clothes and frolic in
the waves?"
Karri giggled but shook her head, "You wish. Come on, since you don't
have a schedule, you can walk me to the class before you dive in to
those engrossing evals."
"Why do you need protection from all those hormone engorged Senior
Weyrling boys?" he asked innocently.
**Like they'd look at me** Karri thought, the scar on her face playing
with her self esteem again. "I _was_ going to grace you with the
presence of my company for a while longer, but if you'd rather keep
stuffing your face..." She wouldn't be upset if he decided to stay, but
she didn't get to see him very often due to their differing jobs and
circle of friends and she wasn't happy that she had to cut their time
short because of class.
"Well, there are other things I would _rather_ be doing," he said with a
shrug and a cocky smile. "But I'll take what I can get from you,
greenrider."
Karri grinned and stood up. She never got tired of U'kaiah's
playfulness, it was nice to know that she was wanted, even if she'd only
acted on his overtures during the two flights he'd won of hers. "Come on
then, before I'm late."
"Yes ma'am," he said standing to attention. "Do I have your permission
to put my tray away, ma'am?"
Standing very regal, Karri played along and tried to keep in her giggles
as she waved her hand dismissively at him. "Yes, you have my permission,
dragonrider."
U'kaiah gave her a smart salute, followed by a very casual wink before
picking up his tray and hurrying off to do her bidding.
