Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 2 of Turn 4
When Alasha's eyes flickered open, she did not see the fire lit rocks of a jagged cave, nor the moons that peaked through with their crest of white, illuminating the dense clouds that encompassed them. Instead there was a smooth ceiling that arched over her, with the faint light of a glow accenting its imperfections. She was in a bed with a soft clean fur tucked around her rather than on a course surface curled in a dusty fur by a fire. There were no strange noises drawing on her attention in the middle of the night, nor was there a sharp chilled breeze striking her exposed skin. It was still, with the occasional cough and shuffle of feet, and she was comfortably resting with only lukewarm air caressing her face.
She felt the slight movement of the warm body at the curve of her neck. When Alasha pulled her eyes down she saw two blinking blue jewels peaking over her cheek. Zephyr crooned contently through his deep breathing as he closed his most inner eye lids. ~Safe~ he brushed his security over her mind before he gave her a flit kiss and nestled his head back under his wing.
Alasha pulled away from Zephyr, trying her best to be subtle, but she was unsuccessful. He seemed dazed as he propped himself up, while Alasha sat up at the edge of the bed.
~Pet~ he extended his head to her, though he was too lazy to move beyond where he stood. She only sighed a smile as she drew softly at his jawline with her nails.
"It looks like we made it Zephyr," she whispered tenderly to the little bronze.
"Yeah, you did," A'son replied from the curtain opening at the foot of her bed. He came to her and embraced his sister with only the relief that she had survived. "Why?" he spoke softly to her as he pulled away and let his hands fall to her shoulders. "Why couldn't you wait until we came back?"
"We didn't have time," she answered as she set her hand on her brother's.
He knew, he knew. His mind recalled what Murasha said, about what Desamin tried to do. A'son clenched his teeth before he looked to Alasha's gray eyes, her gray eyes that perfectly mirrored his own. He wanted to ask her about everything that happened, especially everything regarding Desamin only so he could fuel his hatred of the cotholder, but he held his tongue. He would not pry. "Well, I'm glad you're safe."
"So am I." Alasha glanced out of the opening in the curtains. Where was "Where's Mama?"
"She's down the corridor waiting," A'son replied as he found a seat next to his sister. "She was talking to the healer about what happened."
What had happened? It all seemed like a blur at first, but her mind quickly began to recall it all. It was so vivid, the felines as the pounced on the runnerbeast and ripped savagely into it. Her hand grasped at the sheets until she sensed Zephyr's projection.
~Safe~
Yes, she was safe, they all were, and it was all because of that brown dragon and his rider. Alasha remembered how the dragon gallantly came to their aide, and held the beasts at bay until back up to arrive. He swiped at the felines, pulling them away from her and her family so they could ride away to safety. Even when she was ambushed by the other two felines, he saved her. They saved her, yet she could not remember his name. "A'son, who was it that saved us?" She felt ashamed that she even had to ask, but she had to know.
"His name's K'sper," A'son responded. "And his dragons Bentith."
"K'sper," she mulled over the name. She had heard of the name before, but only in casual passing. K'sper. She had never met the rider until that moment out in the snow. Again she recalled the rescue, flashes of the brownrider holding her as they went /between/. He made her feel safe, and in the few moments that she was consciously aware of what was happening she felt she could trust him. But beyond all that, she knew he deserved her appreciation, and her thanks for what he had done. "A'son do you think-"
"Alasha!" Her mother pushed her way through the curtains, breaking Alasha and A'son's brief conversation. "You're awake." Murasha held her daughter, relieved that she was safe.
Alasha was glad to see her mother, and her other siblings as they came through the entrance, but part of her wanted that peace just a little longer so she could dwindle on the brownrider. He _saved_ her life, K'sper. He protected her, and in the end he brought her to her final destination, the weyr. She felt she owed so much to him, her loyalty, her gratitude, and above all her life. And as her father came in to join the rest of her gathering family Alasha was determined to thank that brownrider, because if anything it was the least she could do.
