"L'rew? What are you still doing here?" Karri exclaimed as she walked up to the weyrling scarfing down his breakfast. "You're going to be late for class." "I think you're a little off," he replied around a mouth full of eggs. L'rew pointed his fork to the candle burning in the corner. "I still have a quarter mark to go."
The weyrlingstaff assistant smiled and nodded her head. "And if we were meeting in the classroom, you'd have plenty of time. But I'm guessing you either left the weylring barracks before the venue change was posted or you missed it. We're meeting down by the weyrlake instead."
L'rew rolled his eyes. Sharding dimglows. "All right, then I have 10 minutes."
If he thought he could make it back to the barracks to get his jacket and still make it to the weyrlake in ten minutes then he was crazy, but she kept her thoughts to herself since he tended to be the stubborn type. "Do me a favor, go get your jacket and meet me back here. I'm getting hot klah and mugs for everyone so we don't freeze out there, and I can't possibly carry it all by myself. This way, you won't be considered late." she added with a smile. Yeah, but apparently he still couldn't finish his breakfast either. "Fine," he muttered, picking up his tray and making no attempt to hide the fact that he was not happy about having his meal interrupted.
Even though he was an ungrateful sort, he was quick, and back in just a few minutes. Karri had a sack of mugs and klah ready to go when he arrived and she passed the sack over for him to sling over his shoulders. "Here," she said as she tossed him a meatroll, "just in case you're still hungry, you can eat on the way." "Why thank you," he said a sickeningly sweet smile. It certainly was no plate of eggs and bacon, but it would just have to do. Of course he'd be starving before lunch time ever rolled around. Karri almost laughed at his behavior he was being so ridiculous, but since it probably wouldn't improve his mood she held it in. "You're very welcome." She replied in an equally sweet tone. If he was quick he'd catch her tease, but he was probably too busy brooding to notice. He caught her tease all right. L'rew hated being teased. Everyone tried to make him look the fool, and it was really scorching his hide.
At least back home it had only been his father. At the Weyr it was _everyone_.
}:I don't tease you,:{ Chairoth reminded him gently.
**I know you don't. You're the only good thing about this place. I can put up with being teased if it means we can be together.** That reassurance brought a slight smile to his face.
"There, I think that's the first smile I've seen on you this entire morning." Karri said misinterpreting the smile on his face to be that of chagrin for realizing how silly he was being. "Now come on, before we _both_ have to explain why we are late."
