Destiny Onward

Writers: Stasha
Date Posted: 25th March 2008

Characters: Alasha
Description: A storm is coming as Alasha and her family near the weyr, but they are being hunted.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 2 of Turn 4

There was not much food left, and the weather was relentless, carving into the adventures' skin with its vicious biting winds. The winds were carrying a storm, a storm that rolled over the mountains and pressed on behind them. They should have stayed in their shelter, yet they did not. They continued on, stopping for nothing, because they had their hope with what lied just beyond the hills. They drove onward.

Alasha held her furs close to her face, guarding it from the harsh elements as her runner dug into the snow, following behind Nelaso, Hedona, and Murasha. The runnerbeast behind them tugged at the reigns wanting to stop, but Alasha pulled back on the reigns, demanding the beast forward. They could not stop, they could not slow down; to do either would mean death in the cold before night fall. They drove onward.

They had traveled so far, well beyond the comfort of the Hold. They had seen threadfall and lived to tell the tale. Lands that had been
naked to human eyes for generations revealed themselves to them as they continued on. The ruins of long lost cotholds and Holds were scattered within the ancient foothills of the Western Barrier Range, had bared witness to their travel. And they continued on with their destiny crying out to them. They were crossing the border between Hold and Weyr. It was so close, the weyr was in their sight, but the distance to their destination was still intimidating. None the less they drove onward.

So focused, so engrossed in the journey for survival, they were all blind to the events that were stalking up behind them, Alasha realized when she would eventually look back to those days on runner-back.
Perhaps this was their error as they climbed further up into the rocky hills of the mountains, with Amber Hills at their back, and Dragonsfall forward to their dawn. Had their eyes but wandered back, or had the wind shifted to warn them, they could have foreseen the danger that hunted them, hidden deep in the snow. Still, they pressed on never turning back, and the beasts of their fate drove onward...
