Careful plans, torn asunder

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 29th February 2008

Characters: Aileyan, Demalia
Description: Aileyan goes to tell Demalia about her accident.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 8 of Turn 4

Aileyan moved slowly along the weyr's corridors. The healers had released her from the infirmary as soon as they were certain that she didn't have split spleen or crushed kidneys or something like that. The broken ribs were bandaged but sore and she moved like an old auntie. Kjarlihetht had assured her that Tapheth and her rider were at their home. Aileyan knocked Demalia's weyrs door.

"Come!"

Aileyan entered the weyr. "Hi Demalia."

"Aileyan! Faranth what did you do to yourself?" The way her friend was moving made it clear something wasn't right. "Come in and sit down."

"I went and fell from a tree," Aileyan said with dry tone. She sat down with a releaved sigh.

"You fell from a tree?" A note of incredulousness entered the greenrider's voice. "A tree," she repeated. "What where you going to do in a tree?"

"I was climbing up into it," Aileyan said. "And thank's, I know it was silly. Kjarliheth already scolded me well and truly."

"Let me guess, it was there, right?"

"Exactly. Unfortunately, it was also covered with ice and now I have broken ribs," she replied.

"Ouch, I guess you are grounded then?"

"Yes, about four sevendays or so," Aileyan said, sounding depressed.

"It could have been a lot longer, and I guess that means we won't be going on our picnic then."

"No, we won't. Unless you want to go off without me," Aileyan sighed.

"That won't be as much fun, and I'm sure the others would say as much."

Aileyan shrugged and looked douptfull. She has never considered herself to be a people's person or fun company.

"No really, I mean it," said Demalia. "You'd be missed."

"If you say so," Aileyan said. She still couldn't quite believe it. Who would miss her but her dragon, and perhaps her son?

"You just go and ask M'non if you don't believe me."

Aileyan decided to change the subject, it was getting embarrassing.
"Meanwhile, I'm just sitting around and waiting for my ribs to heal. And berating myself for being so stupid."

"Has Kjarliheth let up on you yet?"

"Not yet. But she'll forget soon."

"Before you know it we'll be able to reorganise that picnic," promised Demalia. "And it'll be warmer too in a few sevendays."

"That's good. I miss summer. I've lived here two-three turns and I haven't gotten used to the winter's yet," Aileyan said with a spark of laughter.

"I don't like the cold either, before we moved here I never saw so much snow and ice!" Demalia could understand that.

"Yes. I grew up in Emerald Falls. It had nice climate."

"And it is pretty there."

"Mmh, and good trees to climb at too."

"So that's where you learnt to get up them then," Demalia grinned. "I bet you had a teacher to show you."

"Actually, I didn't have teacher, figured it out all by myself. But I did teach someone else to climb trees. His name's Ednan, we were friends before he apprenticed," Aileyan grinned.

"Bet your parents loved you climbing trees with boys."

"My parents didn't care a dragon's fart what I was doing and with who," Aileyan couldn't keep the bitterness out her voice.

"But we do here, and that is the important thing."

"Yes, it is," Aileyan said softly and smiled. She had never been happier than after her impression.

"And we'll all go for that picnic once you're able."
