A Vow of Celibacy

Writers: Stasha
Date Posted: 20th February 2008

Characters: Alasha, Ch'lis
Description: When Alasha goes to find Zephyr she runs into Ch'lis and A'mus
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 7 of Turn 4

A'mus pushed aside his tubers as he thought of his recent encounter with Nasiria. It had only occurred about a candle-mark ago, and already he found his taste for her diminishing. Still, there was something exotic about her, and he found it a shame that it had to be wasted on her.

"So, in order for you to move on," Ch'lis was about to begin.

"No," A'mus did not need another love interest. "No more women."
Besides, he was a new dragonrider which meant a bitter thing called celibacy.

"I wasn't going to suggest a female," Ch'lis denied. It was the last thing that boy needed, he thought. Mare gave him an agreeable chirp before she gaped her mouth open for some more meat. He glanced at her before he took a piece he had pre-cut for her and fed it to the little greedy beast. "I was going to suggest you have some one on one time with Inith." Who Ch'lis felt his friend had completely neglected during this whole fiasco.

"Yeah." A'mus realized. Ch'lis was right. He was a weyrling for Faranth's sake! His whole life should revolve around the bronze that he scarcely deserved.

}:You still love me:{ Inith replied with forgiveness. }:And if you didn't deserve me I would not have chosen you:{ Inith's comment made water coat over A'mus's eyes, but he was quick to hide it from Ch'lis. "So what now," he tried to divert any attention on himself.

Ch'lis was not blind, but he would not dwindle on A'mus's minor anguish over the situation. "We practice being weyrlings. Hey, we start flying in one more month," he replied with some enthusiasms. He was patient enough to wait, but he was still excited about the prospect of flying on his beast.

}:I can't wait either:{ Omath added eagerly to his rider's thoughts "You have no idea how excited I am about that. I feel like I've lived my whole life for that moment, I mean besides Impressing," for Impression was the most impacting part of it all. "He's getting pretty big," he continued as he took another drink of water. "And his wing spanned is getting very sizable now too."

So was Omath's. "Wait until next month."

They raised their glasses to a cheer at their future accomplishment.
"To flying!"

As the glasses touched a small firelizard appeared out of /between/ over the two boys and chattered wildly. It was a small bronze firelizard, who quickly caught Mare's attention. She joined him and the two whirled together in a dance above the two weyrlings with the chirps and whistles singing to their union.

"Where did that bronze come from?" A'mus asked of Ch'lis as he observed the two flits socializing together.

"I don't know," Ch'lis replied in his own wonderment. He was small, Ch'lis kept thinking to himself. He must be young, as young as Mare.
Did he come from the same...

"Zephyr?" A young woman called out. She approached Ch'lis and A'mus's table with her glinting eyes settling on the two flits.

Ch'lis studied her, for she seemed familiar to him. She wore an unbuttoned wher-hide coat over a flowing blue dress. It was too nice to wear on a day to day bases, making the young woman stand out like a wherry among dragons. He had seen the girl around before, but not often enough for her to be a weyr resident. "Is he yours?" Ch'lis asked of her.

"Oh," the girl was so focused on the flit that she scarcely noticed them. "Yes," she replied with a soft smile. "He's mine. Is she yours?"
She motioned to the little green Mare.

Ch'lis replied with the same warmth that she had. "Yeah, she is." How did he know her though? "Have I seen you before?" Her name escaped his memory.

"Perhaps," she pondered over the possibility herself. "Most likely,"
and after she thought more thoroughly. "Well, I visit the weyr often, so it's very possible, actually. My names Alasha," she stuck out her hand in a friendly welcome.

Ch'lis gripped her smooth skinned hand and shook it lightly before he passed it to A'mus. "I'm Ch'lis, and this," he pointed to A'mus who seem to only stare at her with wide eyes. "Is A'mus."

"It's a pleasure to meet you," she smiled courteously before she looked back at Zephyr and whistled to the little bronze. "Come down here you silly thing."

He chirped back at her. He wanted to fly with his new friend, and Mare seemed to agree with his suggestion so the two disappeared /between/ together.

"Oh!" Alasha was surprised that her flit and disregarded her order. He had been so biddable, until that moment. But he was young, she had to remind herself, so the behavior was to be expected. "Well, so much for that..." Again she thought about how odd it was.

"You get use to it," Ch'lis was more able to brush off the minor incident. "They do that a lot."

"I think she's a bad influence on him," she replied on a more serious note, but her eyes danced with humor. "I guess it's to be expected, and I'm sure he'll return eventually. If not out of loyalty then out of hunger."

"That tends to be how it is," Ch'lis agreed.

A'mus still remained silent, while his dark eyes watched Alasha.

**Oh, not again** Ch'lis rolled his eyes once he realized what was going on. "Forgive A'mus. He goes mute sometimes."

"That's okay," she laughed, but she was curious about why his friend had been so quiet. However, when her eyes glanced to A'mus she saw something in the rider's dark brown eyes that made her blush fiercely.
"Oh," she caught herself, startled by her own reaction. She quickly looked down and around her trying to hide the redness that flared against her pale skin. "I should go." Oh, how utterly embarrassing!

"Why?" A'mus quickly caught her. His eyes continued to scan her reddening face.

"My father, and brother are waiting for me," she nearly stumbled over her words as A'mus stood to his feet. The intense look that he continued to give her only made her face brighten further with her embarrassment. "I really should go." She turned to walk away.

"Will we see you tomorrow?" the young bronze rider dared to ask her.

**What are you doing A'mus?** Ch'lis wished he had said nothing now.
So much for "being weyrlings."

"No," she quickly blurted. No, that was not what she meant. "I mean yes." Oh! But that was too obvious! "I mean maybe," but it was to late. She paused in her steps attempting to look any where but at A'mus. "Bye." She did not know what else she could say to correct what had happened. As she dashed back to her brother all she could think about was how it had not been even a candle mark sense she had arrived in the weyr, and already she was making a complete arse out of herself... but he was very attractive, she found herself thinking back on. And those eyes...

"What is with me and women today?" How frustrating!

Ch'lis only shook his head with partial disappointment and partial hilarity. "I don't know, but I suggest you put way any ideas you have about getting together with her. Could you imagine what T'mahl would do-"

"Don't remind me," A'mus replied. He was fully aware about T'mahl's wrath, especially after the last incident with him; A'mus could not afford another mess up.

"So no Alasha, no Nasiria..."

"Definitely not Nasiria," A'mus agreed with his friend. Ch'lis did not have to do anymore convincing regarding that woman, but Alasha! There was something that A'mus just could not forget about her. Was it her eyes? Her soft white skin, perhaps? Her long black hair? Or maybe it was the curves of her body. What ever it was A'mus found himself captivated with the young woman.

}:She does seem nice:{ Inith added.

No, he attempted to convince himself. No Alasha. He was done with women for now, no more. He was long over due for a hiatus. "Let's get back to the barracks before another woman stumbles across my path and ensnares my heart."

Ch'lis was more than happy to comply.
