Description: Ch'lis attempts to train Mare...attempts...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 28 of Turn 4

"No, you're doing it wrong!" J'simo attempted to chide Ch'lis as he coaxed Mare to his hand. "She's not going to do it," the greenrider turned to the other weyrlings. "You wait and see."

M'delon only rolled his eyes as he looked back to Ch'lis. "And what are you trying to get her to do again?"

"I am trying to get her to go to A'mus," Ch'lis replied. He pulled out a small bit of meat.

She trilled excitedly at the site of food.

It was like training a canine, or a runnerbeast, Ch'lis thought to himself. How hard could it be? Yet, he had Impressed her two and a half sevendays ago, and all he could get her to do was fly to his hand, and sit on his shoulder. Well, he had been working with her hall day. She knew how to go to Omath now, who was watching encouragingly from the rocks with his clutchmates. Now it was time for the next step.

"Where's A'mus?" N'lesk questioned skeptically.

"He's in the dining hall," Isina replied the obvious with a sigh of annoyance. "Maybe if you stopped flirting with N'los you'd that already."

"I am not!" the blue rider denied, and blushed intensely while N'los edged closer to R'set.

"Hey," R'set protested once N'los was touching him. He inched away from him "I'm not a blue!"

Would they just shut their mouths? M'delon thought to himself. He wanted to see if it worked, if Mare could do it. Then he found himself wondering how Enrad was doing with the flit they had bought for him.
He heard it was a brown, and caught a glimpse of it a sevenday ago, but it was brief, and M'delon was in passing to get to drills.

}:I want to see too, if the little one can do it:{ Valinth paused.
}:What does she need to do?:{ M'delon kept his eyes on Ch'lis as he answered **He's trying to get Mare to find A'mus in the dining hall**

}:That sounds easy:{
**We'll it may not be so easy for her**

"Okay," Ch'lis was prepared to try, and hoped Mare was too. **Is A'mus ready?**

Omath did not reply immediately. }:Inith says yes. A'mus is ready:{ Here goes nothing.

The weyrlings fell silent accept for the occasional giggle and joke.

Did they not have anything better to do? For egg sake, it was a rest day! They could be playing dragon chest, or dance in the dining hall or something...anything. But instead they decided to watch him, all ten of them, which only added onto the stress for him, and maybe even for Mare. He attempted to push the distractions to the back of his head. He whistled for his little flit to fly to his hand.

She abidingly glided to his hand and took the bit of meat contently.
She was larger now, but she was still small enough to steady herself on his palm with her front claws on his fingers, and was careful not to hurt her friend. She knew what he wanted, and her eyes focused on her target. She was more than willing to please him, and of course it was another easy bite for her.

He projected a visual command to her, but before he could complete it the green dove off his hand and jumped /between/. Did she make it to her destination?

}{ Omath replied discouragingly. }:She's with me:{ Ch'lis moaned in frustration as the little flit flew back proudly.

She did well, she preened to her friend. She landed smugly on his hand and opened her mouth for her bit, but he refused it of her. Refuse?
Her? But she did what he wanted of her! Another image touched her thoughts. It was more purposeful than last time, and the image of a black hair young man sat squarely in her mind. Him? What did he want of him?

"Find A'mus," he expressed as clearly as he could.

Some of the weyrlings snickered.

"Please Mare," he murmured to the little green.

Mare shoved the image of the boy out of her head as the bit in his hand taunted her. She deserved that bit! It was rightfully hers! She did as she was told and flew to her big blue cousin and back. She would dwindle on it no more. Without a second thought she flew off his hand and snagged the bit out of his hand and disappeared /between/.

"Mare!" What happened? Why did she do that? Her behavior completely baffled Ch'lis.

J'simo, and the other weyrlings bursted into laughter. The hilarity of the situation was just too much to bare, and even M'delon found himself scoffing at Ch'lis and the flit.

"What happened?" A'mus asked as he presented himself to the group.
"She never showed."

"Yeah," Ch'lis shook his head disappointedly. "I don't understand what went wrong."

}:She was confused:{ the blue attempted to explain.

**I know, but it's so frustrating!**

Omath projected a loving thought that helped to sooth his feelings. It did help.

"You should have stuck to runnerbeasts," A'mus patted Ch'lis on the back.

Maybe A'mus was right. But Ch'lis became fawned of the little firelizard, and wanted to give her a chance.

And then Mare appeared again. There was the man that Ch'lis was showing her. She flew a loop around the black haired man's head before she flew back to Ch'lis and scolded him for another bit. She found him! she proclaimed.

Silly flit. It was not exactly what Ch'lis wanted, but she got the idea now and at least deserved a treat for it. He gave gave her a small bit, but she settled for it. She would do better with the exercise next time.

She enjoyed her game, she thought delightfully. They would have to play it again, but for now she wanted to see her other friends, flits, just like herself. She gave a final chirp before she jumped back /between/.

"Do you have any idea what goes through her head?" A'mus asked once the green disappeared.

"Are you kidding me?"

The two chuckled. "Come on," A'mus motioned. "It's getting cold."

"Yeah," besides, he could use a cup of klah anyway.

The other weyrlings also eagerly joined them, and they all escaped the cold.
