Picnic plans

"Hiya!" The greenrider waved to her friend across the dining cavern.
"There's room here," she called, gesturing to a free seat.

"Hi, coming!" Aileyan cheerfully called back, weaving her way around the crowd. She reached Demalia's table and quickly placed herself to the free spot. "Whew, everyone seems to have come to eat at the same time."

"I know, but half a candlemark later and all the good things are gone." Not necessarily true, but that was what people said.

"So they say," Aileyan said with a little shrug. Her personal experience said otherwise, outside of the rush-hours, you could get better service and extras. But you couldn't always choose when to eat.
You ate when you had a break from the drills and other duties.

"How's your son doing?" asked Demalia as she poured herself a drink. "You want one too?"

"He's fine, grown more every time I see him," Aileyan replied and handed out her mug to be filled.

Demalia filled the mug and out the jug down. "Do you get to see much of him?"

"Not enough I feel, and I do spent all my free days with him," Aileyan sighed.

"He's growing up fast I bet."

"Yes he is. You should come to see him some restday. Maybe we should arrange a picnic outside the weyr or something."

"That would be nice, I think I'd like that." Picnics were always fun, and a little one would be so excited by a ride on a dragon.

"Should we set one up then?" Aileyan asked. "We could ask other friends come along too."

"We should. Any particular friend you'd want to bring?" asked Demalia with a grin. She'd not seen her friend with any of the men here, but the Weyr was large enough that you could be more than discreet if needed.

"Who knows. Maybe I can convince M'non to come," Aileyan shrugged.

"That would be good," said Demalia, knowing that Aileyan was close to M'non.
"What about Farolla? If she's free."

"She's nice," Aileyan agreed. "Do we know anyone with children of Ravyan's age? It would be good to have him some playmates."

"Rhoba as a girl of 2 and a half turns," Demalia thought out loud. "Louka has a boy of not quite two as well."

"At this rate, we'll have the whole weyr along," Aileyan giggled.

"I can just see it, and the Weyrwoman's face when a tithe train arrives and nobody is here to greet it!"

Aileyan almost chocked on her food when she laughed.

"How about the next restday?" suggested Demalia once Aileyan had finished laughing.

"I have to check with Ravyan's fostermother," Aileyan said.

"Well once, you know, let me know and we can set things going."

"All right, I will," Aileyan promised.

"And in the mean time, we should finish dinner."
