Description: Hatching day!
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 11 of Turn 4
Trealeina, and a few of the other candidates, were walking toward the dinning caverns. The subject on her mind like everyone else's, was the upcoming hatching.
Everyone was chattering about it as they walked. The hatching, they were told, would be any day now. And like the others in the group, she was not really paying attention to who was in front of her.
Trealeina bumped into a few people as she walked.
Giving a smile and a quick apology she turned back to continue the conversation with the others.
The others in the corridors understood what was going on, so most did not mind when they were bumped into by a chattering group of candidates. Everyone knew there was going to be a hatching soon. That usually left everyone in uplifted spirits, no matter what.
The worry on her mind was also like everyone else's.
**What if I am not chosen by one of the dragons? **
She thought to herself. **Oh Faranth, ** she scolded herself **you must not think such a thing.** She had to be positive, think positive. **You will impress, and she will be the most beautiful dragonet to ever have hatched on the sands** she told herself over and over.
Everyone collected their choice of food and drink, and then continued on to one of the tables where the conversation picked up again. As everyone had finished their meal they continued talking. Trealeina would have liked to stay longer and continue but she had more studying to do. When she was not studying for classes or doing her chores, she was with one of the dragonhealers assisting when she was allowed, and trying her best to learn as much as possible. Even her restday was spent studying or checking to see if one of the dragonhealers needed some help.
Trealeina pulled out the stack of hides, flopped onto her cot and took the one off of the top. She kept them in order according to importance. She had read them a hundred times it seemed, but she was never bored of reading it again. She had no idea how long she had been studying when she realized there was a loud humming noise echoing through the corridors That's when she realized that there were people running down the halls, shouts of excitement, and someone called her name to "hurry up or you will miss the hatching!" Trealeina grabbed her candidates garb, (which she had been keeping neatly folded at the head of her cot, just in case), threw it over her head as she ran out the door, tying the belt as she ran down the hall. The excitement grew as she neared the hatching grounds. She could feel her whole body tingle and she had only one thought on her mind. **You will impress today.**
Before she knew she had arrived, there she was standing on the sands, with all of the beautiful eggs in front of her. Other candidates were already gathered around some of the eggs. Trealeina, half nervous, half beyond excitement, moved to a small group of eggs that did not have as many candidates surrounding them already. It seemed she had been there only a few seconds when the first resounding crack was heard. Trealeina turned to see which egg was cracking, and what color dragon it would reveal.
Trealeina could not see what it was. There were too many other people surrounding the new pair, but there were more eggs hatching. The excitement was too much.
She thought her heart was going to burst as she watched the new pairs walk out of the hatching grounds. Then one of the eggs from the group that she was near began to wobble and crack.
Excitement filled her brain again and she watched as a blue made his way from the egg. That seemed to trigger the others hatching. One started to crack, then another, then another, then another.
Trealeina was so wrapped up in watching the others in front of her that when she heard the voice in her head she nearly jumped out of her skin.
}:Trealeina, I am Tamineth:{ Trealeina spun around with every nerve in her body tingling only to come eye to eye with the most beautiful little green dragonet she had ever seen. Everything and everyone around her seemed to disappear. All Trealeina could see was the beautiful dragonet in front of her. Her hide was the most amazing color of green she had ever seen. Not a dark color, but not a light color either.
She looked like a bright emerald, with her hide gleaming in areas that were not dry yet. The dragonets eyes seemed to see right through her, right into her soul. All she wanted to do was shower her with love, attention, and adoration.
** Oh my, are you not the most beautiful dragon on the whole of Pern? Are you not hungry little Tamineth?**
She said as she wrapped her arms around Tamineth's little neck.
}:yes, I am very hungry, I love you too, but can I eat now?:{ came the plead for food.
**Yes my little beauty, we can get something to eat right away, come with me. Open your wings a little my sweet so you will not step on them.** She told her knowing that they often hurt themselves just after hatching.
Tamineth spread her wings out a little so that she could walk properly. Well as properly as a hatchling could. She wobbled and stumbled as she followed Trealeina toward the door.
}: are we going to get something to eat now, I am so very hungry :{ came the hungry sounding plead again.
**Yes my sweet just a little further, there is food waiting for you just over there** Trealeina told her as she pointed toward the doorway leading outside the hatching grounds.
Tamineth tried to move faster, but it only resulted in almost falling over more often. But she was so hungry.
Finally outside the hatching grounds, Trealeina was passed a bowl of cut up meat by a dragonrider just outside the doorway.
"A fine little dragonet you have there" the Dragonrider said. "Beauty of a green she is.
Congratulations" He said with a big smile on his face.
"Yes she is" Trealeina said as she started to feed Tamineth. **Don't swallow it all at once my sweet. I know you are hungry, but you must chew it first.
After you eat we have a nice comfortable place for you to rest.**
The Dragonrider still standing there watching Trealeina asked "What is her name?"
"Her name is Tamineth" Trealeina said looking up at him beaming with pride for her Tamineth. "And she is the most beautiful dragonet on all of Pern."
"Indeed, and what is your name young weyrling?"
Trealeina looked up. She had almost not heard what he had said. She was so wrapped up in making sure that Tamineth was eating properly. "What?, Oh, my name is Trealeina." She said blissfully "Well then Trealeina, when you are finished here, and you have settled young Tamineth onto her sleeping couch you may move your belongings to the weyrlings barracks." The Dragonrider looked at the pair once more. Before he moved away to pass a bowl to another emerging pair, Trealeina could see that wistful look of adoration that all Dragonriders seemed to get when they thought of their impression, or of their dragon.
She continued to feed the rest of the bowls contents to Tamineth until not a scrap was left. Tamineth's belly seemed very round now, and seemed to feel much better, and much happier. Again Trealeina reminded the dragonet to lift her wings just a little, as she waddled after her lifemate to find the comfortable sleeping place she had been promised.
