Description: Chemalis finally Impresses after three turns of Standing
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 11 of Turn 4
Chemalis was sleeping rather soundly before he heard the door slam open. When he heard the Weyrlingmaster shouting for everyone to get dressed into their robes he knew it was time.
The humming! It was loud, echoing down the passageway. He quickly changed into his robes, just as rushed as Animus was before they began to file to the entrance. Chemalis was the last candidate to emerge onto the hatching grounds.
His eyes scanned the eggs that rocked violently before him. All the memories of his failures surfaced in his thoughts, but he quickly buried them, hoping this time would be different. Then the first egg hatched.
It was a brown Chemalis realized, and it hatched so close to them. He hoped the brown wanted him, but the brown, on the other hand, did not notice Chemalis and Animus, and hequickly ran away to a candidate across the sands.
Larazew? Chemalis found himself disappointed. He did not think the boy had it in him to Impress, especially after their horrible encounter with him. But maybe a dragon was what the boy needed to loosen up a little bit.
As the rest of the eggs hatched Chemalis found himself watching intently, hoping a dragon would just approach him. He noticed out of the corner of his eye that Maynex Impressed a green. Good for him, Chemalis thought as the two made their way off the sands leaving Nasiria still standing.
"Chemalis!" Animus called out to his friend.
Chemalis focused back on his own surroundings and saw a small bronze run off from one group of boys, and made his way quickly to Chemalis. A bronze?
For him? No, not for him, Chemalis realized quickly and stepped out of the way. The bronze did not even glance at him as he fell at Animus's feet.
His friend was afraid to move as the bronze creeled, before his eyes settled into rich greens. "Animus?" Chemalis called to his friend.
Animus looked up at Chemalis with tears falling down to the bronze at his feet. "He said his names Inith," his mouth quivered in shock as he fell to his knees and embraced his new dragon.
Chemalis felt relief overcome him. Finally after eight turns Animus finally Impressed, and a bronze too. He watched as his friend walked off the sands with his new bronze at his side. But Chemalis was still standing.
"Sabianth! He said his name is Sabianth!" Another cry echoed in the hatching grounds. Chemalis looked up to two boys that were near by to him. One of the boys was stroking the a newly hatched brown dragon. Raset? Chemalis attempted to recall a name. Yes, it was Raset. He was happy to see the young boy also Impress, remembering that he left empty handed at the last hatching, but now his friend, Enrad, stood alone.
A bronze! Chemalis saw the dragon, this time heading towards Birigundi.
Finally he would Impress! Chemalis thought to himself, but the bronze stumbled passed the older candidate and instead Impressed the boy barely able to stand.
"Toaleth!"
Poor Birigundi, Chemalis thought.
There were very few dragons left now. A blue hatched from his shell, while a green Impressed another candidate. Jasimo? Chemalis thought with surprise as the once bully now walked off as a weyrling with a green under his arm. A brown passed him by, crying out angered that Chemalis was not his, and walked off creeling at another group.
Well, that was it, Chemalis realized as he began to walk off the sands with only a blue a hatching ground away, and a brown that had already rejected him. Would it always be like this? He thought with disappointment.
}:Chemalis, I am Omath:{ he heard a voice proclaim in his mind.
"What?" he asked, but before he could see the dragon, he felt him butt his leg, nearly unsteadying Chemalis off his feet.
Chemalis looked behind him to see the blue standing at his feet. The blue? The same blue that was across the hatching grounds just a few moments ago had run across the hot sands just for him. For him! Chemalis! His blue! His Omath! The blue dragon was a good size too, the size of a medium large canine, but that did not stop the burly Chemalis from scooping the blue into his arms. Omath wrapped his tail around the curve of Chemalis's chest, while his head hooked around Chemalis's neck crooning happily that he was accepted.
}:I'm hungry!:{ Omath projected to Chemalis, while he was carried off the sands.
Chemalis chuckled at his beast. "Of course you are," he replied as he set the dragon down at the entrance.
"Congratulations, Ch'lis," the Weyrlingmaster Assistant remarked as he handed Chemalis a pale of meat.
That was right, Ch'lis was his new name. "Thank you," he replied back.
"And what is his name?"
Ch'lis grinned. "Omath."
The Assistant looked over to the blue at Ch'lis's side.
"Welcome Omath."
Omath glanced up at the Assistant before butting Ch'lis again. }:I'm hungry:{ The new weyrling could not help but laugh. He nodded at the Assistant before he walked off to join Animus who was feeding his new bronze.
"Chemalis! You Impressed!" Animus remarked in surprise.
"It's Ch'lis now," he replied back with a grin. He sat down next to his on the bench with the pale in his lap.
"And I'm A'mus," Animus grinned back.
Omath quickly joined them, leaping awkwardly onto the bench and attempted to snag some meat from the pale.
"Omath!" Ch'lis attempted to scold his dragon's behavior, but could not help but laugh.
}:I'm _hungry_!:{ the blue protested, then quickly scarfed the food that Ch'lis handed him.
"They're ferocious little beasts aren't they," A'mus replied as his bronze finished the meat in his pale and curled up by him. A tender expression crossed A'mus's face as he stroked the eye ridge of his new bronze. "Inith," he muttered before looking back at Ch'lis.
"I know the feeling." Chemalis looked back at Omath, handing him another chunk of meat after another until the little blue was stuffed. After he finished the last chunk, Omath curled up with his head resting up his rider's lap.
}:I'm tired:{ he commented before he began to drift off.
"I know the feeling," Ch'lis repeated. He glanced back at his friend who was now sound asleep. Ch'lis felt the same way too, he realized, now wanting nothing more than to fall asleep himself. He draped his arm over Omath as his eyes began to close.
Never did he think this day would come, he thought as he began to drift off. Yet now, there he was with a dragon, a beautiful blue dragon sleeping in his arms. For the first time in Ch'lis's life one thing finally became certain to him. He would never be alone again.
