Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 4

The greenpair emerged dangerously low in the weyrbowl. The cold of
*between* had stopped the Thread, but hadn't done anything to assuage the pain. Talwynn barely had enough time to look and see that her arm had been ravaged before she noticed a new sensation- falling. She looked quickly down at Riveth and saw to her horror that the green's left wingsail was shredded. She began to list to her left as she was falling.
**Riveth, we have to get down, please just get us down, then it'll be okay...** she begged, conscious of the shared agony searing through their bond.

Riveth valiently flapped, spraying ichor around, but hadn't managed to do much more than get them not listing as badly before she hit the ground, a consequence of appearing so low; she'd had no time to correct.
The impact was hard, but Riveth had somehow managed to absorb most of the shock of it. She bellowed in pain, eyes whirling.

**It's okay, we're down, I'll get help.** Talwynn promised. **Call the dragonhealers, call someone!**

Riveth spoke to the dragonhealers' mounts in the bowl. }:Help, please, I have been scored, oh it hurts, please help!:{ Talwynn added into the cries. "Please help us!"

}:Riveth and her rider:{ Suuth informed J'gen before mindlocking with the green to assure her help was on the way.

J'gen was applying the last stitches to the blue he was working on, but called out for help for the fallen pair he had felt, more than seen appear, behind him. **I'll be there in a moment.** he reassured his lifemate. To have landed so hard the pain of the bellow from the green indicated a serious wound, he knew without looking.

"We need a healer here!" another urgent voice rang out to the crowd of healers, dragon and human, that milled around.

"Okay, slather that with numbweed and then make sure he's settled."
J'gen ordered the young dragonhealer who had been assisting him. "Once he's settled, follow me to the green." he nodded over his shoulder.

Dragging down a cloth that hung from his shoulder, J'gen wiped his hands roughly as his pace quickened towards the green. She lay thrashing on the ground despite Suuth's linking. As he drew nearer he could see why.
"NUMBWEED! REDWORT - NOW!" J'gen bellowed to the crowd at large.

"Help me get her down." he spoke to the healer who had appeared at his side. His eyes took in the damage to both rider and dragon, **Suuth, hold her steady.** He reached up with the healer and gently eased Talwynn down her dragons side. "She's going to need work on her." he murmured to the healer, who nodded sadly.

Talwynn felt Riveth calm down and stop the thrashing. The pain for both of them hadn't yet stopped, but Riveth wasn't as upset. **Are you okay?** she worried.

}:Suuth is talking to me, help is coming for us both.:{ the green answered.

Talwynn felt herself helped down. She staggered and leaned into the person helping her. She looked at those surrounding her. "Please, help her. I'm not as important." she insisted, knowing they would take her for treatment, wanting her green to be healed too.

She could see the wound from the ground, and it looked bad. Ichor everywhere, shredded wingsail... "Is she gonna fly again?" she asked softly.

"We're going to do our best to make sure she does, but right now, _you_
need to be looked at as well." J'gen held a hand up to her protests, "Riveth won't be calm enough for us to help her, until she knows _you_
are safe and being cared for." he admonished.

"Alright." Talwynn said. Her arm was throbbing, and she could feel the blood soaking her riding jacket. She started to shiver. Reaching out, she patted Riveth's side with her good arm. "They'll take care of us both...I'll see you later." she promised the green.

}:I understand. We will be better.:{ Then she looked at J'gen. "Okay, she understands."

"Can I have a sharding healer here?" J'gen called out aloud again, torn between taking charge of the dragon and helping the rider who had lost all colour. He noticed a couple of stretch bearing drudges making their way through the crowd, and a red haired journeywoman leading them.

"Sorry, we would have been here sooner-" she said, "Shards!" her eyes hadn't missed the blood that had begun to seep out beneath Talwynn's riding jacket. "We need to get you inside to the infirmary." she turned to the other two, lay the stretcher down, quickly!" She took hold of Talwynn on the right side, trying to avoid any further damage to the riders left arm, which appeared to be almost eaten through by Thread.

Talwynn was grateful for the healer's support. She didn't think she could stand much longer. Things hurt so badly right now... Riveth's crooning and support helped. "Alright." she agreed, shaking. She felt cold, ice-cold, and the pain was agonizing. She could barely think.

Once settled on the stretcher, Reahnna bent close to the rider, "Drink some of this," she brought forth a small vial of liquid, and tilted it to the riders lips, "It'll take away some of the pain." she tried to reassure. "You'll need it, while I secure your arm for the trip to the infirmary."

Talwynn took the drink, needing the pain to stop before she and Riveth got treated. Riveth's pain was starting to numb- if one of them didn't hurt, maybe the other one could provide more support. "Okay." she said again. It was so hard to concentrate on anything else.

While Reahnna had been busy dealing with the rider, J'gen had had every one handy slathering numbweed and redwort on the damage Riveth had suffered, Suuth exerting as much control on the green as her rider had.

"Your dragon is in good hands, but you know we have to get you to the infirmary now, don't you?" Reahnna asked, while nodding to the two apprentices to lift the stretcher.

"I do." Talwynn admitted. She shivered. "I'm cold. Are you going to make that stop? The cold and the pain and..." She sounded like a child, but she couldn't care. It hurt and she was scared.

"Ass soon as we get you inside, you'll feel warmer." Reahnna assured the girl, but ushered the apprentices to move as quickly as they could. The bloodloss alone was enough to kill her, but shock she was in could mean the difference between life and death - the quicker they got her to the infirmary the better.

* * *

"That's right, set her down, gently now!" Reahnna cautioned.

Talwynn had tried to tune out everything, but she couldn't help but whimper. She thought she was in the infirmary now. Or she was somewhere, she could smell redwort. "Are we there?"

"Yes Talwynn, we're in the infirmary." Reahnna assured the rider. It didn't take long for the apprentices to be replaced by fully trained healers, who had surrounded the stretcher. As gently as they could, they had moved her onto a more stable bed, and began to slowly remove her clothing, the better to see her injuries.

Under the lights of the infirmary, the injuries could be seen to more advantage, and worried looks passed from one healer to another as the full damage to the riders body could be seen. It was surprising to all that she had remained conscious.

"Deep lacerations to the lower left muscle, radius and ulna. Bone visible below what is left of the tissue..."

"Left femur, patella, medial and lateral condyle all exposed. Muscle and ligament deterioration..."

The list of damaged area's grew, more then Reahnna had suspected at first sight, but the damage to the arm was far worse, from what she could see. There may be serious discussion later regarding possible amputation of the riders left arm, she thought.

"Talwynn, can you hear me? I need to know, the pain level - has it diminished at all?" she asked, close to the riders ear. She had to know if shock was still masking the pain, or if she would need more fellis to last through the examination.

"It's better." the greenrider said. "But there's still some pain."

"I don't want to give you any more fellis, just now if I can avoid it.
The examination shouldn't last much longer, and once it's over they will be putting you to sleep for a while so they can repair the damage."

Talwynn was in no condition right now to deal with the reality of her situation, from the closer inspection Reahnna had been able to ascertain while talking to the rider, it was doubtful she would walk again without the aid of a walking stick or even crutches. Her clothing had all but been removed, and from the quiet talk amongst the healers, they would be putting her under very soon.

"Can you hear Riveth?" She asked, needing to make sure the green was aware that her rider was still alive, and that a lack of contact wouldn't send the green /between/.

"Okay." Talwynn agreed. Sleep would be nice, and she wouldn't hurt. Then Reahnna's words came through to her. She reached out.

**Riveth?**

}:It hurts, but they are taking care of it.:{ the green reported.

**They're going to put me to sleep, okay? To fix me. But I'll still be here... I promise I'll be back when they're done**

The greenrider looked up. "She understands."

"Good." Reahnna nodded, then gave the signal for her to be moved into the surgery.
