Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 19 of Turn 4
All the post fall checks had been completed and the wings were washing up in the Weyrlake. Treadoryth had insisted that he go make sure everything was allright with the eggs from Dolphin Cove. Reyina had offered to help her neices wash Treadoryth for him which he gladly accepted.
The Weyrleader stood at the entrance to the hatching sands not wanting to bother Traelyn or Nyith as they settled the eggs. He hoped that the riders had been able to save all the eggs, but he hadn't been able to confirm it with J'darin yet. Treadoryth had mentioned that the Dolphin Cove Weyrleader had been knocked out while rescuing the eggs, but it didn't seem serious according to the bronze.
He heard Hasaarth announcing his arrival to the watchdragon and turned to wait for his fellow Weyrleader. J'darin looked as weary as he himself felt after the day's events. "Did you save them all?"
D'wrayt inquired as the man approached.
J'darin looked pale around all his edges, his normally dark blue eyes stretched and wide with weariness and a blinding headache that still faded in and out every now and then.
Hasaarth bugled a tired greeting of his own to Treadoryth and the older bronze made room for Hasaarth on the ledge nearby. Hasaarth's normally shiny bronze hide was much paler than normal and he was going to have to feed tonight if he was going to be in any shape to fly Thread tomorrow. If there was anything to eat, that is, at Dolphin Cove.
J'darin met D'wrayt's eyes and shook his head slowly no. "We lost four at least...two were smashed in the flood before we could move them. Two were ...lost.... with one of my bronzeriders. Lost... "
Bitter agony welled in his throat as he related the story.
"How are you, D'wrayt? I know you just flew Thread and here we are asking for help in the middle of it all."
"I'm good. We had no serious injuries and will be able to lend a hand cleaning up. I am glad that you were able to save most of the clutch, although the loss of a bronzerider is never good. I will assemble some teams to help with cleanup and fill in the gaps during threadfall as well. Would you like some food before we head back to your Weyr? Hasaarth is welcome to his pick of the herdbeasts in the feeding pen as I am sure he is hungry after all that work." D'wrayt said noticing the paleness of both rider and dragon.
J'darin was, indeed, pale. He had only just returned to his senses and barely managed to get here on Hasaarth. Hasaarth was a white copy of his normal coppery bronze and looked exhausted as he crouched nearby.
"My sincere, deep thanks, D'wrayt. It seems Dolphin Cove is ever asking after Dragonsfall for help. I wish no tragedy on your Weyr, but I would dearly love to be the one offering help instead of asking for it." He leaned nearby, blinking his eyes.
"We have Thread tomorrow, so any riders you can offer we'll take and gladly. As far as feeding Hasaarth, I'll ask him. I'm sure he is hungry."
"I'll put out a call for volunteers, but I don't think we'll have any problems getting riders willing to help. Is there anything else we can do?"
D'wrayt asked hoping that he would have been able to respond as well as the Dolphin Cove Weyrleaders had in the face of the day's challenges.
"That would be wonderful enough, D'wrayt. We may have to beg some foodstuffs from you; I am not sure of that just yet. But I'll take the riders if any, but please, yes, only volunteers. I know your Weyr just flew Thread today." His face took on a serious - if it could be more serious - look and he went on in a quieter voice. "All I ask is that you take care of my Weyrwoman, please, D'wrayt. She's very important to me. And she's had a very bad day."
"We will give what we can. I can promise you we will take care of Traelyn."
he replied.
"That's all I can ask, D'wrayt. She is the most important thing in my Weyr right now, she and her gold dragon." He said it softly, and didn't mean that she wasn't always important. But right _now_ she and her lovely gold were having babies. And they needed every one.
His thoughts came out his mouth. "We need every one of those Hatchlings if we're going to return to full strength sometime this turn." He sighed a bit.
"Thank you again. Your help goes above and beyond, as ever." J'darin bowed his head a bit to his fellow Weyrleader.
"I know you would do the same if it were the reverse." D'wrayt replied.
"I would, D'wrayt. Please call on me any time." He exteded his arm and grasped D'wrayt's forearm firmly in his own. Thanks had been said, and now J'darin thought he needed to go back to his Weyr and see how bad the damage really was.
