Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 27 of Turn 3

The young girl waited patiently for half a candlemark for her father to appear. He had promised her that he would come have the midday meal with her after he missed dinner last night. She knew that he had a lot to do being the Weyrleader, but she also wanted to spend time with her father occasionally.

She saw his wingriders come and go so she knew he wasn't held up by overly long drills. He didn't have any meetings that she knew of and she knew how forgetful he could be if he got wrapped up in hidework. Finally, the young girl gathered up her meal and headed towards her father's office after asking if someone could bring D'wrayt a tray since she couldn't carry that much.

She knocked on the door and waited for him to answer or open it. She hoped he didn't have anything important going on at the moment. She didn't have a dragon nor could she hear all dragons like he could, so she had no way of finding out if he was busy other than stopping by.

The knock on the door awoke the sleeping Weyrleader. He had been so tired that he was trying to catch up on some sleep before he ended up in the infirmary. "Come in!" he called out trying not to sound sleepy.

Reyina slipped through the door and was followed by a drudge with a tray for D'wrayt. "Did you forget, da?" she asked setting down her tray and smiling appreciatively at the young man that had brought the other tray up.

"Forget what, hatchling?" he asked genuinely perplexed at the question. Not even the food reminded him of anything except that he was hungry. It was nice of the headwoman to send a plate of food for him.

"You were supposed to meet me in the dining hall today. I had them bring a tray up for you. It would have been too heavy for me to carry both."

"I'm sorry, love. I completely forgot. It's been a busy day and I didn't sleep too well last night. How has your day been?" he said smiling apologetically.

"It's been going well. I heard that the harper hall is moving to Dolphin Cove Weyr. Do you think they would let me apprentice there?" she asked her voice edged with excitement at the idea.

"I don't know. Why not just stay here and apprentice? You don't have to stand if you don't want to, you know. I think you'd make a good greenrider, though. It's in your blood."

"I want to see someplace other than home. I'd like to travel the holds as a harper or something like that. Maybe I could join a caravan even?" she said in between bites of her meatroll.

"You could see other places as a dragonrider and it would be a lot safer than a caravan." D'wrayt replied as he poured himself a mug of klah.

"You've never lived anywhere other than Dragonsfall, da."

"Yes, but I have been to many other Weyrs and countless holds for gathers. I like it here at Dragonsfall and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. You didn't care for holdlife did you?"

"Not as a lady of the hold, no. I want to be a crafter or a dragonrider, but not a holder's wife. It is way too boring and I don't want to spend the rest of my life bearing children." she said remembering how the young ladies she met at Emerald Falls talked only about who they would marry or how many children they wanted to have.

D'wrayt could see that his youngest had quite a strong sense of self and knew what she wanted out of life. He hoped that she would be able to have all that she wished. Perhaps a dragon would find her and thus keep her close to him for just a bit longer. She was growing up way too fast and he was afraid that he would lose her before he was ready to let her go.

"What if a dragon is waiting for you?" he asked polishing off the rest of his meal.

"Then I will be a dragonrider. Not everyone impresses, you know that da. I'll be twelve soon and then I can apprentice if I want to." she said reminding him yet again of her upcoming birthingday.

"I know, but I will always worry about you. You are my child and I will always love you no matter what you do." he said with a smile.

"I love you too da." she said glad that they had a chance to talk. She wanted to be a candidate, but she wanted to be more than that as well.

"Go on now, I have work to finish and you have chores to do." he said after she finished the rest of her meal. He would have to remember to get her a birthingday present the next time he was at one of the holds. Perhaps he would get her a new gown or a flit egg if he could find one.
