Being With Me Helps

Description: D'wrayt checks in on Arilanna and the baby.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 5 of Turn 4

D'wrayt entered the infirmary in hope of getting to see Arilanna and make sure she was doing allright. It had been a few days since he had seen her last with them both being busy with work. His face brightened as he saw her in the waiting area when he walked into the infirmary.

"D'wrayt!" Arilanna grinned when she saw the father of her unborn child. With her pregnancy almost over, she was waddling, and she'd given up trying to make her walk look anything near graceful as she approached him. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you, of course." he replied with a similar grin. He was very excited to be a father again and loved to watch her stomach grow with amazement as if he had never experienced it before.

She slapped his chest playfully, "You'd better be, or you'll be having dinner _alone_ tomorrow!"

"I wouldn't want that. How is our little one today?" he asked placing his hand on her stomach lightly. He loved to feel the babe kick at his touch. Knara had been quite active as Eknaryi's pregnancy progressed that he had wondered if she was going to be a boy. He didn't have an inkling one way or another with this one but either way he was still happy to have another baby in his life.

"Sleeping, as usual." was her acerbic reply. "He's only awake when I'm trying to get some sleep." She poked her belly with a finger as if to punish the child before smiling up at D'wrayt.

"They always seem to have a sense of humor from the start, don't they?"

Hmmm, she mused, "Ristari didn't. She was a good girl. This one must get his humor from _you_."

"Probably. Is Master Telemon busy? I wanted to pick up the medical reports on my riders who are ready to go back into the wings. He said that he'd try to have them ready for me today. " he replied remembering the work related reason he had come by for.

Arilanna nodded. "He went out to check on some of the weyr-bound.
I'll peek in the office and see if I can find them."

"Don't worry about it, it gives me an excuse to come back later to see you. Have you eaten yet?" he asked with a grin. He liked having excuses to come into the infirmary so that it didn't look like he was always checking up on her.

"A few hours ago," she said with a smile. "But I could probably sneak away for a snack if you want?" It was so nice to have his attention for a change.

"If you're busy we can always go out to the lake this evening. The water will help take some of the weight off for awhile." he replied remembering the conversation he had with Treadoryth earlier in the day.

She nodded, "That sounds nice D'wrayt, thank you."

"You're welcome, Arilanna. I can't imagine what it's like to carry a child, but I'm willing to do whatever I can to ease your discomfort."

Arilanna smiled, two nights in one sevenday with him was more than she'd had in a long time. She knew being Weyrleader made him stretched for time, but she wasn't against monopolizing him when the opportunity arose. "Just you being with me helps."

"Really? I'll try to remember that." he said feeling more useful than he had in months when it came to Arilanna and their unborn child.
