Description: Birigundi intends to tell Nia about Rigella, but...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 21 of Turn 3
Birigundi paced outside Nialyn's door. He had to tell her. She was going to know anyway. You couldn't exactly miss the fact that Rigella was pregnant. Well, not in another couple months you couldn't. It was best to hear it from him. After all, he would be having to divide his time between _two_ women now. She deserved to know why... **Shards**, he groaned, slapping his forehead. **How could this have _happened_!**
Finally he took a deep breath and opened the door. "Nia? Are you here?"
"Yeah," she growled softly, shoving the tangled mess of yarn away from her. Nialyn lifted her scowl from the knitting, which _really_ wasn't going very well, to him. "I'm going to warn you right now, Biri... I'm not having a good day."
"Oh. All right." Shards. Maybe now was not a good time...
"Who would've thought that making soft _booties_ would be so hard?
Shards! I've sewn more complicated things for _fun_. When I lived at the Hold."
"Sewing is fun?" Birigundi asked doubtfully. He had learned how to do some basic mending for when he was out on a long run. As a runner who could be _anywhere_ when they got a hole or a tear, he knew how to sew on buttons, darn socks, saw patches, even repair seams. But the idea of sewing for _fun_ just escaped him.
"Yes. When it's not _booties_!" Frustrated, she crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him. Then she sighed. "Sorry, Biri. Sharding moodswings are worse some days." Like today...
"Yeah, it's ok." Perhaps now _was_ a good time to tell her. After all, she's already having a bad day... Why ruin a _good_ day?
A moment of silence passed. Then another. "So.... Are you going to stand there all evening or are you going to actually sit down?"
"Oh, sorry, I guess I was kinda /between/ there for a moment," he said, forcing a smile and settling down next to her on the sofa. "Actually, there's something I wanted to talk to you about." **You can do this Birigundi. You _have_ to do this...**
She curled a knee up, head tilted expectantly.
"Well... You see it's like this..." He looked down as he reached out to take her hands in his. Oh shards! She has knitting needles! Not a good idea to tell her while she has knitting needles as a handy weapon to use against him!
Her expression grew wary. "What?"
**Oh shards... think of something...** "Well... it's just that..." He let go of her hand and resorted to his favorite method of distracting girls from the point. Taking her head in his hands her pulled her in for a passionate kiss.
Utterly confused, she let herself be lead by him, abandoning herself to the wonderful sensations brought about by his hands and lips. But she didn't understand... Scorch it. Maybe it just didn't matter.
"Shards, I've been thinking about you all day," he whispered as he began pulling her tunic over her head. And it wasn't a _lie_ exactly. He had been thinking about her... just not like _this_...
"Not that I'm complaining," she breathed once she could see him again, "but you've been a lot smoother at the whole seduction thing before."
Nialyn caught his face in her hands. "Are you sure you're okay? Something's not on your mind?"
"No, nothing on my mind, except you... really..." Birigundi panted as he lunged to cover her neck with kisses before she could look him in the eye.
Startled by his sudden force, she fell back against the arm of the sofa, grateful for the pillows piled high on that side. Burying her fingers in his hair, she leaned forward to graze her teeth against his temple, realizing that whether he was lying or not, this was a sharding good way to vent the frustration that had been building up in her all day.
He felt like a jerk for misleading her like that, but only for a moment.
Her reciprocation smoothed away any doubts that he hadn't made the right choice in changing the subject. Wasn't this much better for her, after all? She'd been having a bad day. Maybe she didn't need to know _right_ away. Maybe he could wait a couple more... Shards, he couldn't think anymore. She certainly wasn't the shy young woman he lead to bed their first time together, that was for sure!
