A New Dress (1/2)

Writers: Roxanne
Date Posted: 30th September 2006

Characters: D'wrayt, Reyina
Description: D'wrayt checks in on his youngest daughter and they talk briefly about her future.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 28 of Turn 3

Reyina was looking through the clothes that she had trying to find something to wear to the Weyr's Turns End Celebration tomorrow evening. She was going with Jaysira and Ekaylin. She still found it funny that her best friends were actually her nieces. She turned to the girls and asked, "What about this one?"

Jaysira shook her head, "No, that one is too old. You should have asked grandda for a new dress. He would have gotten one for you too, you know."

"I think it's pretty." replied Ekaylin who was only two turns younger than her sister and aunt. She had her dress picked out already and was excited about being allowed to stay up this year instead of having to stay with the little ones like Raeysi.

D'wrayt had come in the door just in time to hear that comment and was glad that he had gotten her a new dress as well. That was actually what he had stopped by to deliver. "What are you girls doing?" he asked making his presence known.

The three of them turned, startled at the sound of his voice. Reyina saw the box in his arms and asked, "Who is that box for, da?"

"What box?" he asked with a grin. He loved to watch the expressions on his daughters' or granddaughters' faces as he feigned any knowledge of what was so obviously in his arms.

"Grandda! That box." Ekaylin exclaimed as she pointed to the box.

"Oh? You mean this box here?"

"Yes!" the three girls chorused excitedly.

"Why don't you open it and find out?" he replied setting it on the table. It was a rather large box as it contained three dresses that he had commissioned for the three girls in honor of the end of the Turn.

The dresses were recieved with much oohing and aahing. The younger girls ran off to show their new dresses to Ayrati leaving D'wrayt alone with his youngest daughter. "Do you like it?" he asked watching as she twirled this way and that way to get a good look at the dress.

"I do! Thank you, da. How did you know I wanted a new dress?" she asked as she hadn't wanted to bother him with the fact that she was outgrowing a lot of her clothes. She had an appointment next sevenday with a tailor to get new everyday clothes made.
