"I agree with you. Not every woman is built to go through with a pregnancy as much as they may want one." he said thinking of his former Weyrwoman and wondering if the baby that killed her had been his. He shook his head refusing to dwell on such depressing thoughts. He would remember his beloved women as he had known them not as they had died even though both had been with child when they passed on.
"Da, would you mind if I never had children?" she asked curiously.
"It's your decision. I'm okay with it as long as you're okay with it. Are you?" he inquired with a gentle smile as he watched his grandsons play with their stuffed dragons. He wondered if they would become dragonriders like their relatives or go another way. He also wondered what would become of his youngest daughter. She was so eager to stand, but he knew she had other dreams as well.
"I am. Reyina will want to know that Ayrati's allright. Will you tell her on your way back to the infirmary?"
"Yes, but how do you know I'm going back to the infirmary?" he asked with a chuckle. She knew him so well.
"Da! I know you, remember?"
"How could I forget, with you reminding me every day?" he said as he got up to do just that.
"I don't know. I'm going to get some rest. Don't stay up too long, we need you too." she said. Taking the boys' hands she tucked them into bed and then headed to her own weyr. She asked her green to check up on Kaezioluth for her sister.
D'wrayt gave each of the boys a kiss and made sure his granddaughters were tucked away in their own beds as well. They reminded him of their mother as a child and he smiled at the way they looked so peaceful lost in sleep. He wasn't sure that they really knew anything was wrong with their mother as Knara had whisked them away quickly. That girl had a good head on her shoulders and he knew she would do well for herself if she ever let herself relax a bit. They all needed some relaxation. He would have to make some time to do so soon.
