“Ridge Wing, huh?” Sanvi smiled at the man behind her in the line for dinner. She didn’t recognize him, and it was always nice to meet a stranger. “You must be new. I’m Sanvi, of Respellath. Green Respellath,” she added. “We fly with Summit Wing.”
“Hello there, Sanvi of green Respellath.” H'kami greeted, with a grin. “Name's H'kami, of brown Teyrabth. Yeah, I'm new.” He added. “Nice to make your acquaintance.”
}:Hello.:{ Teyrabth greeted Respellath.
The green crossed her forelegs and examined the brown dragon who had spoken to her, much as her rider was sizing up his. He seemed like a solid, friendly sort. }:Hello.:{
“Oh" wait, don’t take that,” Sanvi nodded at the soup ladle that H’kami was reaching for. “I’m pretty sure it’s Derril’s day to make the soup and he always uses too much salt and sugar. Where are you from?”
“Thanks for the advice.” H'kami told her with a chuckle, set the ladle down and reached for another meatroll instead, and another redfruit half, ambling after her through the line. “Formerly of Dream's End Weyr, actually. And you? Native to this cold climate?” He added playfully.
Teyrabth yawned, and settled down more firmly on the ledge. }:It is lovely to meet you, Respellath.:{ he offered.
}:It sure is!:{ Respellath said brightly. It was a beautiful evening and the stars would be out soon. She pointed her muzzle at the sky. }:You can watch the stars come out from my ledge, if you want. And if you fit,:{ she added dubiously. Her ledge was quite small. }:You should make Teyrabth’s rider like you,:{ she said to Sanvi. }:He is coming to my ledge.:{
“Dragonsfall born and bred. I used to work in the Kitchens before I Impressed. It’s how I know about the soup,” Sanvi said proudly. “Let me know if you ever need a cake or something and I can probably hook you up, although it’ll cost you a favour!”
}:I should like that very much, Respellath.:{ Teyrabth said equably, and launched, vacating his weyrledge to glide toward where Respellath was.
“A cake, huh?” H'kami grinned at her, even as they reached the end of the line. “I do like sweet things. And I'll definitely keep that in mind.” He added. “A favour for a pretty lady's no trouble at all.”
Her smile grew sly. “I’m never trouble.”
H'kami's own grin widened in return, tipping his head to the side just _slightly_. “No?” He hummed. “I can be _plenty_ of trouble. If you want.”
Teyrabth reached Respellath's ledge and hovered a moment, studied it, before he landed on the very edge. They fit, hopefully. But he was very close to her.
Respellath regretted her decision and moved over, but her irritation was short lived when she realized that Teyrabth blocked the wind like a gentleman.
“Mmm, not tonight,” Sanvi said lightly. “I’ve already got plans. What made you transfer to Dragonsfall?”
}:It is a chill night.:{ Teyrabth remarked. }:But the ledges stay warm, and my weyrledge keeps sun for a very long time. We face the sunset. Perhaps next time I might show you?:{
Ouch, rejected. H'kami kept his grin easy. “Fair enough.” He said with a chuckle. “Join me for dinner at least? I'll happily answer your questions.” He glanced around the Dining Hall, motioned. “Over there?”
“Sure. After you!” she said, gesturing with her free hand.
H'kami trotted over to where he'd spotted some empty spots, settled into one of them. “... So.” He said amiably. “Questions.”
“Why’d you transfer?”
“Honestly? My father wanted a transfer-- H'tain, he's in T'valland's wing-- and it wasn't worth arguing about it.” H'kami shrugged. “He Impressed here at Dragonsfall, and he's my only family, so….” Another shrug, and he took a long drink of some water.
He was lucky to have a father. Sanvi took a sip of water to ease the ache in her chest before replying. “Maybe your father made you come, but you made the right choice. Have you tried a dragontail yet?”
“I'm starting to think that, yeah.” H'kami said, and offered her a grin, before taking a bite of his own food. “I've heard of it? Haven't gotten the courage to try one yet, though.” He added. “They spicy?”
The greenrider brightened up. Food was Sanvi’s favourite topic of discussion. “Nah, they’re just salty and tasty, kind of like a sausage but… smoother. The reddish coloured mustard will teach you what breathing fire feels like though. But you _really_ need to try the salt-cured ham from Amber Hills, the one with the black rind. And the hard white cheese from Hidden Meadows- well, I think its from _around_ there, not actually Hidden Meadows itself. And the soft cheese we get in the spring has a flower pressed into the wax on the top of each wheel and it is _so_ good when you bake it with jam!”
“Huh.” H'kami responded. “Hey, I like spicy stuff. Lemme see that reddish mustard. Maybe it'd go good with a dragontail.” He mused. “Or on this meatroll.”
She pushed her plate over and arched an eyebrow. “Help yourself!”
H'kami obliged, taking a small portion and scooping it onto his own plate. He tried it. “Faranth, that's spicy! … And delicious!” He told her.
The greenrider nodded approvingly. He hadn’t gagged or turned red or fumbled for water, which made H’kami all right in her books. “Flaming right, it’s delicious. It’s a taste of Dragonsfall Weyr. Welcome to the cliff!”
