K'mai

K'mai

"Hey there." H'kami greeted with a wink and a grin, slouching into a Dining Hall seat near the bluerider. "This seat taken? I hope they've got bubbly pies, it's _cold_ today."

"It's _summer_," K'mai said with a laugh.

H'kami winced theatrically. "Great Faranth, I knew I should have gotten more jackets." He huffed, grinned at K'mai. "H'kami of brown Teyrabth, recently settled in your chilly corner of the continent." He added, offered a hand.

"K'mai, of blue Sebeth," he said as he took H'kami's hand. He paused a moment before he added, "Originally from River Bluff, so I know what a shock the weather can be."

"Dream's End, more or less." H'kami offered, shook the offered hand before settling back again. "Ooh, kaf-- I'll take _that_, want some?" He added, scooped up the jug and held it for pouring. "... My father's a Dragonsfall native, to hear him go on about it. He insisted we transfer back with him."

"A top-up would be nice." K'mai held out his mug. "Who's your dad?"

"H'tain." H'kami supplied, easily, poured fresh kaf for K'mai, and then himself. "But I'm sure you want a more interesting subject than some woebegone old-timer, yeah?" He offered a wink. "You've been here a bit longer than me, got any interesting tidbits?"

Just teasing and friendly, or was that wink something else? K'mai would have dismissed a brownrider before, but the rules had changed. Well . . . H'kami did look a little young, but K'mai wouldn't say no if the man was showing interest first. "The dragontails are great. They originated here. And it's only going to get colder -- much colder when winter gets here. So we all find ways to keep warm." His gaze lingered on H'kami before he took a sip of his klah.

"I'm _never_ opposed to finding ways to stay warm, here." H'kami responded lightly, and let his gaze stay on K'mai's a long moment, deliberately, before returning his attention to his food. "Dragontails, huh? I like the spicy ones." He added.

Well, well. How interesting. "That'll keep you warm too." The tip of K'mai's tongue slipped out to lick a non-existant drop from his lips. "What else do you like, H'kami?"

"Mm, I'll try anything once." H'kami hummed, idly. "Someone was talking about skiing the other day, but there's better ways to take a tumble, if you ask me." He took a long sip of his own klah then. "Honestly, I like most anything. New experiences, new friends, these dragontails..."

"I like meeting new friends, too." Anticipation coiled in K'mai's stomach. "And I'm sure I could show you a few new things."

"I'm _excellent_ with details." H'kami hummed in response. "Name a time and place, and I'll be there."

A pause, and then he lifted his klah mug, tipped it toward K'mai in a sort of salute. "To making friends."

"To making friends," K'mai agreed as he quickly consulted his mental calendar of social engagements. "How about tomorrow night, my weyr?"

"Sounds perfect, K'mai." H'kami said, and grinned at him. "Teyrabth can be there and gone in a wingbeat. Just have your blue tell him where."

He took another sip. "What else do you like doing for fun? I assume swimming is right out." He added, half playful. "Though my neighbor suggested some riders duck down to Dolphin Cove's beaches now and then, I'd rather learn what charms my new home's got, you know?"

"Oh I _love_ swimming, just not here." With an evening together set up, K'mai settled into the conversation. "There's actually a lot to do come winter, as long as you can get past the freezing your ass off part." He chuckled. "When the lake freezes over there's ice skating and hockey. Skiing, like you mentioned, and sledding. We have a lot of indoor games, dragonpoker and the like. And then there's my favorite -- parties."

"Parties are _excellent_." H'kami agreed. "So're card games. Maybe next time I trounce Z'renh at cards, I'll invite you too?" He offered. "Tey doesn't mind sharing a ledge."

"Oh, Z'renh! He's in my Wing. Yeah, that would be fun," K'mai said. "And next time I have a party, I'll invite you."

H'kami beamed. "Excellent! I'll have Teyrabth reach out to your Sebeth the next time I feel like fleecing Z'renh." He chuckled. "And of course-- I love parties. Just let me know when. And if you need drinks or snacks or whatever."

"We can always use more snacks! Oh, and cups, bring cups." K'mai smiled. He had a feeling they were going to get along very well.
