The Weyrleader waited impatiently as the healers examined his oldest daughter. He was not prepared to lose her to a miscarriage especially so close to losing Jaela. He would have to talk to her about being more careful to prevent pregnancies in the future. He'd think that after having five children, she would know how to prevent them. He seemed to lose most of the women in his life when they were with child.
"Excuse me, Weyrleader?" an apprentice said interuppting the bronzerider's thoughts.
"Yes?" he said a little too sharply.
"Journeyman Farlun said to tell you that your daughter is going to be allright. She only miscarried and the bleeding's been controlled." she replied softly. She had never spoken to the Weyrleader before and she had heard that he was sleeping with one of the Journeywomen healers. It was the first time she had got to deliver more than bandages or something that the healers needed.
"Can I see her?" he asked biting back the urge to suggest that the young lady practice her speaking skills more. He understood that speaking to such a ranking member of the Weyr could intimidate even the most outspoken youth. Not that he thought he was that intimidating to nonriders.
"I,I,I.....uhmm...ummmm...I don't know." she admitted finally not wanting to upset the man.
"Can you find out, please?" he asked trying not to sound impatient. When she nodded and ran off to find out the answer. He sought out Treadoryth for comfort and as a messenger. **Tre, can you tell Hydrazineth that Ayrati's fine. Make sure that Kaezioluth is calm, too.** he asked not trusting himself to talk to the greens himself at the moment.
}:I can do that. She will be allright, won't she?:{ the bronze replied from his ledge. He knew that both the greens were together at the weyrlake where they had all been playing in the water when the greenrider began to miscarry.
Knara had taken the frightened children to her weyr while D'wrayt rushed Ayrati to the infirmary. Hydrazineth was helpful at calming Kaezioluth down. He knew that she would be down as soon as they were all asleep. He saw the young apprentice beckoning him towards her, so she must have gotten an approval to let him see Ayrati.
She was lying on the bed with her eyes closed when he walked in. "Hey hatchling, how're you feeling?" he said softly as he stroked her hair. She opened her eyes and smiled tiredly at him. He was reminded how much she looked like her mother and was taken back to the first time he saw her in Eknaryi's arms.
"I should have told you, da." she said tears welling in her eyes.
"It's allright. These things happen. You need to rest and get better." he replied just glad that she was alive.
Ayrati nodded tiredly and closed her eyes. She hadn't wanted to make the decision and it had been made for her. In a way she was glad that she wouldn't have to carry a child, but she was sad too. "Da is it okay for me to be happy that this happened and sad at the same time?" she asked wanting to affirm her feelings.
D'wrayt had heard of that before, but had never truly experienced the loss that his daughter had. He could only guess as to the answer. "Yes, I believe so. I can have a mindhealer check up on you if that's what you'd like." he finally said after taking a moment to think before answering.
"I think that might help. I'm tired, da."
"Then rest hatchling. I'll go tell your children and sisters that you're allright. You sleep and we'll see you tomorrow morning." D'wrayt said giving her hand a gentle squeeze before getting up to leave.
