Aydhara

Sebiath was all flare and show as he burst out of /between/ with Casmari and Aydhara strapped to his back. He tucked his wings and successfully completed a barrel roll in the sky.

**Seb!** Casmari scolded. **Cut that out before you make Aydhara sick!**

}:She likes it. Probably.:{ Sebiath said with zero repentance in his voice, although he did unfurl his wings and let the air fill his sails, bringing them down to the powdery soft beach in a slow glide.

Aydhara's shriek wasn't one of panic, and the arms that tightened around Casmari's waist weren't doing so out of fear. The straps would hold, she knew, and Avicath and Tymborikath were both too gentle or too dignified for fun acrobatics.

"What a good boy, Seb!" She gushed once they'd landed, though she was a little wobbly unstrapping herself and sliding down his side. "He's so fast in the air."

“He is,” Casmari agreed with a smile of pride as she slid down his flank. “I love his aerial acrobatics. We don’t do them a lot around the Weyr, just in case a Wingleader or someone gets prickly about it. But when we’re away, Sebiath likes to cavort and have fun.”

"Pff. Do it anyway. Surely they won't be prickly if you aren't getting in anyone's way?" Aydhara thought out loud. She hadn't given it much thought. Weyr traffic probably made it hard, anyway.I hope my dragon likes it, too. Just my luck I'll get a fat dragon like Avicath that doesn't want to do anything."

The mention of Avicath pushed a giggle out of Casmari. “He is a _little_ round, isn’t he? I think it makes him cute, though.” She snatched the thin beach blanket she’d tucked under Sebiath’s riding straps and spread it down on the sand. “Has he always been… chunky?” The bluerider shrugged out of her jacket and began unbuttoning the top that covered her swimsuit.

"He's always been sturdy, but he's gained a lot of weight since we moved south. He eats all the offerings the male dragons would bring Tymborikath." Aydhara said with a laugh. "Now that Imbeth rose I guess he'll have to relearn how to hunt."

She unhooked the little picnic basket she had stolen from her parents weyr and set it by the blanket. "This was a great idea, Cas. I missed the warmth!" And the view was excellent, too, though she tried not to oogle Casmari too hard. She was better than the boys.

“I’m sure Tymborikath will still have a slew of male suitors. A gold is a gold, after all.” Casmari said, although, it wasn’t _exactly_ true. Her mother’s Piketh received no attention, at least not that kind, since she didn’t rise to mate any longer.

The female bluerider shimmied out of her linen pants, letting them drop to the sand before bending over and tossing them on the corner of the blanket. “I just thought a day out of that gloomy, frigid lake was on the agenda. And, let’s be honest… I wanted to see you in a bathing suit.” Casmari winked at Aydhara.

"You're welcome to see me in less than that." Aydhara said with a grin. She carefully peeled off her own outer layer, folded them carefully, and set them on another corner of the blanket. Her boots and socks followed, and she wriggled her toes into the warm sand. Barrier Lake was nowhere near as cold as the High Reaches, but warmth was always welcome.

"C'mon, let's see if the water is still warm."

“Race you!” Casmari called, tearing off down the beach.

She turned her head to look over her shoulder, but was met with a solid wall of blue hide as Sebiath barreled down the beach and into the water.

“SEB!” She squawked as a wave of water crashed over her, courtesy of the dragon’s wake.

}:Oh, I’m sorry, I thought you were talking to _me_:{ he said silkily, in the mind-voice she’d come to recognize as his playful tone. }:I didn’t mean to embarrass you in front of your _girlfriend_.:{

**She’s not my girlfriend!** Casmari peeled the wet strands of her platinum hair away from her face, smiling. “So much for that,” she said with a laugh to Aydhara.

Aydhara had barreled after her until Sebiath had overtaken them. She skidded to a halt too close to the water to be missed by Sebiath's wake. She sputtered at the taste of salt water and shook her head, rubbing the rest of the water off her face. "Fine Seb, you win!" She called to the blue, laughing. "So nice of him to give us a head start."

“He likes to be the best at _everything_,” Casmari said with a shake of her head, but her voice was flavored with affection for the blue dragon. “I had never really considered a blue dragon, not even when Kadira impressed one at Dragonsfall. But now… I can’t imagine it any other way.”

"How is it now that you're in the fighting wings?" Aydhara asked. "Kadira got put in the Queen's Wing, and it makes me wonder if they did that because she has a blue. Is anyone giving you a hard time? I happen to know people in the Wings."

Well. Her parents. N'kayden. Ketlyn.

“Mom says Kadira got put into the Queen’s Wing because of the emotional baggage that came after that girl from Dolphin Cove went all the way to Dragonsfall to pick a fight.” Casmari shrugged her shoulders here to say that Aydhara would have to take the gossip for what it was worth. “No one has said a word to me about impressing a blue. Do I feel like me and Sebiath are _watched_, yes. I feel like there are eyes on us all the time in drills.”

As the breakers crashed around their calves, Casmari set her hands onto her slender hips. “And it is a little,” she searched for the right word, “lonely? I mean, I don’t really fit in with the female greenriders, nor do I fit in with the other male blueriders.”

"You'll have someone join you soon, surely. Zaphare Impressed a couple hatchings after Kadira. Though there's still just Tirraze at Dolphin Cove. Hm. Well, with any luck l'll be in the same boat as you soon, and then you won't be as isolated." Aydhara's smile turned coy for a moment as she turned it all over in her head. "How has it been, with all the male blueriders? Any huge differences?"

“They mostly ignore me. Not out of spite, I think, but they’re used to their female wingmates being on a green. I don’t think they even consider me. Except when I’m put in formation beside them in drills.” Casmari shrugged a little. The corner of her smile lifted in a smile as she looked at Aydhara. “I hope you do join me soon.”

"Cool Blueriders Meetings will be at my weyr." Aydhara said with more confidence than she should. "Zaphare owes me marks, so she can bring snacks to the first meeting."

Casmari had to search her brain for a second to place the name, but thought she faintly remembered it from her time at Dragonsfall.

“Sebiath chased in his first flight a fortnight ago,” she told Aydhara, easing out further into the water. Behind them Sebiath was dunking his head in and out of the water. (**What are you doing?** }:Seeing if there’s any fish.:{ **There won’t be with you doing that!**)

"And you waited two sevendays to tell me?!" Aydhara said, appalled. She smacked the water to send a small splash in the bluerider's direction. "Cas, that's so rude! I need details. Who was it? How was it?"

Casmari sank into the water, hissing a little as she finally submerged up to her neck. “It was Ketlyn and Sebiath made it feel like I had no choice. He was _insistent_. So anyway, I show up to the flightroom and there’s your brother and V’dryn bowed up at one another like male felines.”

"Ketlyn! Ugh, Ketlyn didn't give me nearly enough details, then. You both owe me." Aydhara said with an exaggerated pout. "Of course you didn't have much choice, if Sebiath wants to shoot his shot. I'm gonna give Nik such a hard time later. What a weenie."

The female bluerider didn’t quite understand what ‘shoot his shot’ meant but then, she’d come to accept that Aydhara often said things she didn’t understand. Maybe it was the way people talked at High Reaches.

“He was grabbed up by some lower caverns’ woman afterwards so I don’t think he was too disappointed,” Casmari chuckled.

Aydhara wrinkled her nose. "Bleh. I guess there's someone for everyone, huh. How did Sebiath do? I mean, I know he didn't win, but he at least beat out Aberath and Zhomoth, right?"

“He was doing great,” the blonde replied, with a slightly wistful tone. “Being one with him like that, _really_ flying, was the best part. I honestly look forward to another flight just for that experience.”

"Yeah, get it, Cas." Aydhara said with a hint of pride, both for Casmari and for Sebiath. Of course he flew well. Her grin turned coy again quickly, though, "Did you get grabbed up by someone afterwards? You could've come grabbed _me_, you know."

“I didn’t see you,” Casmari said. “I looked.” Were her blue eyes smoldering a bit? Or was that just the sun reflecting in them?

Aydhara's heart did a funny flip-flop in her chest. "You looked? Well, I'll have to keep an eye out in the future. I don't have a dragon to tell me who's chasing who, you know." That was the one problem with blue dragons, she supposed. She didn't want to hang around _any_ flightroom in hopes Sebiath was chasing, especially not now that there's a chance her brother or her dad would also be there. Maybe she could train Slate to alert her. Hmmm. How weird would that be?

“Well, you know where I’m at right now,” the bluerider offered with a smile. One hand reached out to Aydhara in the water- an invitation.

Aydhara didn't hesitate. Her fingers slipped easily into Casmari's and she let herself be pulled closer, her other hand skirting along the bluerider's waist. "I do." She said softly, leaning in for a soft kiss.

While she had worried that she might not ever feel comfortable being affectionate with anyone, it was certainly easy with Aydhara, Casmari thought. One of her hands brushed over the other girl’s shoulder and trailed down her back, anchoring them together in the water. Aydhara’s lips tasted like saltwater and the sun, an intoxicating mixture.

Sebiath floated peacefully behind them, his eyes whirling a mixture of blue and orange in response to Casmari’s feelings.

Aydhara deepened the kiss for a breath, letting herself savour it. When she finally pulled back, it was just enough to press her forehead to Casmari's eyes half-lidded and smiling. Casmari's touch was electric and warm and entirely welcome. "Let's go back to the beach," She suggested, "We can practice for the next greenflight."
