The sea stretched out in glittering waves below, but O'rosin hardly noticed. Every inch of him was tense, his hands clutching too tightly to the straps in front of him. Far below, Aeoluth's shadow passed over the familiar rocky coast. The cothold quickly came into view; a cluster of sturdy, salt-weathered buildings huddled against the elements. Despite his excitement, Aeoluth took his time in the descent and slowly circled downwards.
}: You look very handsome in your leathers. :{ Aeoluth said, catching onto O'rosin's insecurity but not understanding why.
**You're just saying that.** O'rosin replied. He glanced down at his riding gear, still crisp and new, like most of the things he'd gotten from weyr stores. The jacket wasn't even his first riding jacket; Thread had eaten enough of the first one despite the quick jumps /between/ that he'd had to get it completely replaced. He felt conspicuous, as if the leathers themselves declared how far removed he was from the place he called home.
**You need to be on your best behaviour, all right? You're very large and the first dragon they've seen up close.** Aphirith was the first dragon he'd ever seen, and even then it had only been his father and a few siblings at market with him. His family had returned to the cothold without him, and he doubted any riders had dropped by on Search or Sweep since. He'd seen them flying overhead before, little glints of colour against the sky.
Aeoluth bobbed his head a little in agreement. He backwinged carefully, landing in a sandy patch beyond the cothold. The gust of air stirred by his landing sent sand and dirt flying, even as he quickly tucked in his wings and lowered himself down for O'rosin to dismount. He'd _wanted_ to splash in the water, but there were docks and boats nearby and he'd already learned that he shouldn't do that.
O'rosin _felt_ all the eyes turn on him, and there were a lot. Everyone must have been out helping with today's catch.
}: It's the first time they've seen a dragon. :{ Aeoluth supplied helpfully as O'rosin pulled off his helmet and ran a hand through his hair. His hair was too long. He should have gotten it cut before he came-
It didn't matter. His older brother Obric got to him first, pulling him into a bone-crushing hug. Obric wasn't nearly as large as O'rosin remembered. He'd put on weight and muscle since Impressing Aeoluth.
"Look at the state of you." Obric teased with a smack to O'rosin's shoulder. "Feedin you proper, up in that Weyr. Thought you might've gone soft livin' up there."
"I'm almost bigger'n you now, aren't I?" O'rosin huffed in a breath and shook his head.
"Near to. Ma will be pleased, anywho.' Obric's gaze flicked over the riding leathers, then back towards the brown dragon that quietly watched. "Jays, he's big. Bigger than that green."
"Yeah, it took some getting used to. There's not many bigger than him. His name's Aeoluth." O'rosin said with a little touch of pride.
Obric carefully raised a hand out for Aeoluth, like offering to a pet to sniff. Aeoluth did not dissuade him from that notion, lowering his nose for him to pat. "Oh!" Obric exclaimed, "He's soft. Thought he'd feel like a 'snake or somethin'. It's hard to believe, that you got swept off like that. Got chosen by a dragon."
"I hardly believe it myself." O'rosin admitted. "It's like a whole other world. But I'm not here for that. I want to hear about everything I've missed. Once everyone has a chance to pat Aeoluth's nose, anyway."
