Aydhara

Aydhara

Sure, Aydhara _could_ have walked to Barrier Lake Hold on her own, but that would have been boring. She didn't have Ketlyn or Casmari or N'kayden to take along, now that they had all Impressed their stupid perfect dragons and were too busy to make mischief. It was more fun to beg her dragonrider friends that were on a rest rotation to take her instead, and hey, it wasn't like she was demanding a trip to another Weyr or anything.

She'd intended to go looking for urns to hold firelizard eggs like her Dad had suggested, but something entirely different caught her eye and pulled her into a seedier shop, one that likely only grew more prominent as the Weyr grew nearby. "D'ren!" She called, laughing and holding up a vase that was intended to hold wine. "Look in the bottom of this one!"

D'ren didn't know what he'd been expecting but it wasn't . . . that. "Umm . . ." His cheeks heated. They were selling this? At a Hold?

The blush sent Aydhara into another fit of laughter. "Isn't this amazing? Who would've thought to find something so scandalous outside a Weyr! I'm going to need to do extra chores and come back with more marks." She peered down the vase again, "That pose seems rather...acrobatic. How much artistic license is that, do you think?"

D'ren made himself look again so he could understand what she was talking about. "If they slipped that would be incredibly painful."

"Oh no! What a conversation to have at the Infirmary." Aydhara peered down at it again, still snickering. "This is where having the exact amount of lubricant is especially important."

D'ren snorted a laugh. "Who thinks of putting this on a vase?"

"People with _class_, that's who." Aydhara said very seriously. She set the vase back down and started looking at the others nearby. "Do you think they have any targeted towards, y'know, Weyr Sensibilities?"

"Isn't that what you just showed me?"

Aydhara just fixed him with a deadpan stare. "We had different upbringings."

"You want something worse than _this_?" D'ren laughed incredulously.

"I want to see what the worst one is!" Aydhara said excitedly. "Or best. Depends on who's asking. Imagine spending all this time making the pottery and then painting it. Candlemarks of work. What dedication."

D'ren picked up the vase to look at the underside. "This isn't Smithcraft-made, is it?"

"Do artists have to get someone else to Smithcraft-stamp their work, or would this guy have had to specialize in it as an apprentice?" Aydhara asked, then frowned in consideration. "But art is Harpercraft, isn't it? Where does one draw the line?"

"I'm not exactly sure, but it's definitely a gray area," D'ren said. "Harpers make intruments, even though it's working with wood. And Weavers make tapestries, and that's certainly art."

"We'll have to go to a crafthall and ask." Aydhara joked. She picked out a smaller, equally scandalous mug. "What if I got N'kayden a sexy mug for a graduation present? Or 'congrats on holding hands again' present? He'd go six shades of pink."

"For your _brother_?" D'ren made a face, but he was also laughing. "That's so awful!"

"Being a weyrling probably hasn't impeded his dating life." Aydhara said seriously. "I'm gonna do it." She fished for the marks in her pocket, counting them out until she had enough. Her parents _probably_ wouldn't notice the couple she filched. "What a successful trip. Thanks for bringing me."

"Every trip with you is an experience." But D'ren knew he needed someone to drag him outside the Weyr. Outside his head.
