Dawyn almost growled in his anger. "You're never happy with me!" he accused. "I did get you that flit egg didn't I? Despite the fact I don't understand what you are doing with TWO flits!"

"I never _asked_ you to get it for me! All I said was that I wouldn't mind having another one!" Shards and _shells_.

"Oh, come on! You have already settled it with that fosterling," Dawyn snorted.

"Use her _name_, Dawyn. She's the Vintner Hallmaster's daughter, for Faranth's sake. And no, actually, I didn't settle anything. All I said when she brought it up is that I wouldn't mind! She could've given the egg to anyone else if she wanted!"

The angry word disturbed Kelwyn. He wanted to get away from them and started to crawl all fours to the kitchen.

"Well, You got your egg now!" Dawyn growled.

"I don't know _what_ your problem is, Dawyn! What did I _do_ to get you so sharding worked up?"

"You are my problem. You're always critizing, blaming, nagging, complaining!" Dawyn yelled back.

Kelwyn had made it to the kitchen. He sat on his bum to consider his options. He was bit hungry and didn't table always have something to eat.
He had been practising to standing up. So, he crawled to the kitchen table. Dinner was already set there, with plates, mugs, pot of klah...

"_I'm_ the problem?! _You're_ the one who seems to always have problems with _everything_ around here! And you're hardly ever around!" She _knew_
he'd just been blowing smoke when he had told her that they could probably get away for a while. Ha - so much for that! Sharding man.

Dawyn had completely forgotten he had promised a little vacation for them.

Behind their backs, Kelwyn struggled up to his little feets. His balance was still bad and he wobbled. He grapped the table cloth in attempt to stay up. But the cloth wasn't very stable...it started to slid down...and with it came everything on it.

CRASH! Hysterical wailing.

With a hissing gasp, Keles flew past her husband to the kitchen. "Dawyn!"
she shrieked for her husband, grabbing her screaming son up in her arms.

"KELWYN! Is he all right? Why didn't you watch him?" Dawyn yelled and followed his wife to the kitchen.

Completely ignoring his personal jab, she rushed the toddler over to the counter. "Dawyn, come here! I can't tell if he's cut... Oh shards! Is he burned, Dawyn?" Her voice was steadily rising in pitch as Kelwyn continued to wail.

"Rinse it with cold water! Or snow!" Dawyn said, trying to remember his first-aid training from apprentice days. "Do we need a healer? Is it bad?"
he asked anxiosly.

Running Kelwyn's arms under cold water, Keles gulped in air, trying to get a hold of herself. She didn't have any sharding time to get hysterical! "I don't..." **know.** But she _had_ to know! As she crooned to their son, she forced herself to think. "We need a healer. Shards, Dawyn..."

"I'm going. Just keep the burn under water. Shards, shards..." the young smith said and hurried to the hallway, jumping into his boots. He actually had tears in his eyes.

"Hurry," she whispered, even though she knew he couldn't hear her.

"This way, hurry!" Dawyn was almost dragging the hall's healer after him.
The healer looked rather annoyed by the way the young smith was treating him.

"Oh, thank _Faranth_!" Keles breathed as her husband finally burst into the kitchen, hauling the healer in behind him. "He was burned by hot klah," she hurriedly told the healer as soon as he was rushed to her side.

"Let me have him and let's see," the healer said calmly.

Dawyn hovered on the background, twisting his hands and shifting from boot to boot in his nervousness and worry.

Keles was reluctant to hand over her sniffling son, but she did as she was told. The healer set him down, carefully checking his red skin. Then he took out a bottle of cooling salve. "This has herbs mixed in that will help ease the burning sensation and help patch skin," the healer told them, looking from mother to father. "Luckily it's not as bad as it _could_ have been." The look in his eyes was disapproving as he began smearing the concotion on Kelwyn.

"He'll be alríght then?" Dawyn asked with releaved sigh, not noticing the healer's look.

"Well, he will have scars, on his back and at the top of the head, but they will fade away with the time."

**Scars?** Keles's fingers shook as she gently reached out to caress her fussy son's cheek. Then she glanced at Dawyn. They should have been so much more _careful_... They'd let this happen because of the _pettiest_
argument...
