Characters: Arrilon, Kamalia, N'sir
Description: Arrilon makes it to Dragonsfall Weyr to check on Kamalia.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr, Harper Hall
Date: month 13, day 14 of Turn 11
Notes: Comes right after "Usual Meeting Spot." Mentioned: Chalzie
Arrilon had no idea how he was going to get to Dragonsfall Weyr, but he had more options at the Hall than sitting in the grass, so to the Hall he went. He continued trying to call Joy but the firelizard had disappeared, which was not unexpected but was incredibly frustrating. He tried to think through other options. Could he just stand near the entrance to the Hall hoping a dragon would arrive and beg the rider to take him to the Weyr? Find someone with a very well-trained firelizard to deliver a message to the Weyr that would hopefully make it to his sister? Or deliver a message to one of the dragonriders he knew at Dolphin Cove Weyr who could give him a ride?
He even considered writing a letter to Chalzie, at the Dolphin Hall, since she had dragonrider friends and lived right by Dolphin Cove Weyr. When they had been together, Joy had fairly reliably sent messages to her. But, of course, Joy wasn't there, which was part of the problem. This was the first time since leaving the Weyr that he regretted not having access to a near-instant form of transport to anywhere on Pern. Kamalia had never felt so far away.
He had never had a need to speak to a watchrider and did not know if a personal problem was an appropriate reason to ask for a message to be passed along. Moreover, the dragon and rider would be from Dolphin Cove Weyr, which made everything a bit more complicated. That seemed to be his best option if he did not find anything else out in the next quarter candlemark or so.
As he approached the Hall, Joy appeared overhead. However, before he could react, she disappeared again. As he stood there, wondering if he should wait and see if she would return, a blue dragon arrived and landed less than a dragonlength from him.
"Arrilon?" called the young bluerider.
"Yes?" Arrilon approached him.
"Kamalia sent me. She thought you might be worried. I'm N'sir. Want a ride?"
Arrilon felt a rush of relief. "Thank you. Yes." He immediately mounted and buckled in. "So, she's ok? And Alaudath?"
"They're fine," the bluerider said reassuringly. "They both got minor Threadscores, but they'll fully heal. You'll be able to see for yourself. Here's a jacket for /between/. Once you get it on, we can go."
Soon, they were in the air, then several heartbeats later they were above Dragonsfall Weyr.
"You're ok," were the first words he said when he saw his sister. Kamalia was in a temporary weyr near the infirmary. He had passed a sleeping Alaudath and then, there she was. She was sitting in bed, her leg propped up on a pillow. But, aside from bandages on her leg, she seemed fine.
"Hey Arrilon," she said with a smile as he approached and she hugged him. "We're fine. We'll hopefully be back in the air within a sevenday. It's good to see you though."
Arrilon pulled up a chair next to the bed, his heart rate slowly returning to normal. "When Joy showed me images of you I wasn't sure what was going on."
"Yeah, as soon as I saw her I knew it was going to be a problem." The greenrider rolled her eyes. "She's fun, but not good at taking directions. That's why I sent N'sir over to get you, since that was the easiest way to show you I'm ok."
Arrilon realized, in his rush to see his sister, he hadn't even thanked the bluerider. "I was wondering if I should try to pass a message through the watchrider," he admitted. "It's harder, not being at a Weyr. So, it happened in the last Threadfall?"
Kamalia nodded and launched into an abbreviated version of the story, focusing on the fact that she and Alaudath would be fully healed by the end of the Turn. "Alaudath is still sleeping more than usual, but she's in a lot less pain now. We'll be able to make it to our next meeting without any problems."
"So," she changed the subject, "Any new ladies at the Hall?"
Now it was Arrilon's turn to roll his eyes. "No. Although," he remembered, "I was talking to someone while I was waiting for you. She's a daughter of one of the Masters."
"Was she pretty?"
He shrugged. "I guess so? She had long hair." He couldn't remember much else about her, and was only humoring Kamalia because he was still just happy to see her.
"You're never going to find a wife," Kamalia joked. "I still think you need to find another harper; or at least, another crafter." She couldn't picture him with a traditional, holdbred woman.
"I'm focusing on my studies right now." In theory, he'd love to get married some time soon. But, no one had really caught his eye, and he still had so much to learn at the Hall. He wasn't sure he had time to be in a relationship. "Want anything to eat?" For him, it was getting close to dinnertime.
Kamalia looked around. She had some scattered food brought by wingmates and friends, but wouldn't mind something else. "Sure. Bring me back whatever meat they have. And something sweet."
Arrilon nodded and stood, then stopped for a moment, looking at her. "I'm glad you're ok." Then he headed to the dining cavern.
Kamalia blinked quickly, her eyes suddenly tearing up. She knew her brother would probably never live at a Weyr again, but she missed him terribly. It was good to see him, even for a short time.
}:Are you ok?:{ Alaudath said, half-asleep.
**Yeah. Arrilon is here. He just stepped out to get some food.**
}:Good. You like seeing him. When he's back, tell him I say hello.:{
Kamalia smiled, glad her dragon liked her brother. **I will.** She leaned her head back, closing her eyes for a moment to relax. Being injured had been a nice reminder of just how many people she had that cared for her. It was a good feeling.
