"I thought you might be here," Kiomo smiled as he rounded the shelf of the storeroom. He gave Gleniel a pleased, and somewhat shy smile. She had to go back to her work so soon the night before, just when they had reached an understanding of their feelings. And those sweet little kisses... He couldn't wait the whole day to look for her. Kiomo hurried through his work and came in search of her.
Blushing, she glanced briefly up at him through her lashes, her smile shy.
"The Headwoman is having me organize a couple of these shelves today...I'll be in here a while, unfortunately..."
"That's all right," he said as he took her hand and gently brought it to his lips. "I'll just keep you company for a while. If that's all right with you, of course. If you'd rather, I can go..."
Her breath quickened slightly as his lips caressed her knuckles, and she let out a soft sigh, remembering the way they'd felt on her own... Trying to cover up her sudden longing, she smiled at him. "You can stay, Kiomo."
"Well, why don't you tell me how I can help you? Maybe we could hurry this along a bit?" he asked hopefully.
"Oh, that'd be wonderful... Here, if you could start refolding these blankets, and maybe restacking these in this basket here...yeah, those. That would help me out a lot."
"All right," he said as he picked up a blanket and started folding. Kiomo chuckled at an amusing thought, "You know, if my brothers and sisters saw me doing this they just might think I'd gone mad."
"Why? Didn't you ever fold blankets?" A brow rose as she shot him a teasing look. "Looks like you're doing a good job of it..."
"Well, no its just..." He decided he'd better not remind her that folding blankets and tidying storerooms was drudge work that wouldn't be considered fitting for the son of a Lord Holder. "It's just not me, I guess."
"Then what is you, hmm?"
"Administration, I suppose. Pouring over hidework, checking on the progress of others... Folding blankets just was never part of that. But I think I have a natural talent for it, don't you?" he chuckled as he picked up another one. "And what is you?"
She smiled a little as she began shelving a couple stacks of hides. "Everything you see me doing here, Kiomo. But I personally think it's better than administrative duties... Shards, I don't think I'd have the patience!"
"Do you have a dream, Gleniel?" Kiomo asked curiously as he picked up the next blanket to fold.
**Maybe...** She glanced out of the corner of her eye at him. "I'm not really much of a dreamer... I just kind of take days as they come. I'm not really very...ambitious? I guess that's the right word."
"And here I thought all you girls did was dream and scheme," he said with a teasing wink. "Truly, there's nothing you want from life?"
Gleniel turned her eyes back to the shelves. "I suppose...I suppose I want to be married. Someday."
Kiomo nodded. It seemed that was every single person's dream for someday... "Do you want to live at the Hold? Or in a cot?"
"A cot." There was no hesitation there. "It's a place we'd be able to call our own. Though I like the Hold, it just...doesn't feel like a home.
A cot would, I think."
"I suppose, but I've never lived in one, so I can't say." He set the last folded blanket on the top of the pile. "And children?" he asked as he walked lazily back to her side.
"If I'm married, I think that would be inevitable, wouldn't it?" she asked with a small grin, glancing at him.
"Oh, I don't know about that," he said as he smiled down at her. "You know, that color really suits you, Gleniel."
"Thank you," she murmured, blushing.
He reached up to catch a soft stray tendril in his fingers. "You know, I don't think I've ever seen you with your hair _down_. Its always been in a braid or up away from your face. Do you ever just let it hang lose?"
Shards...she wished her heartbeat would just _settle_... "Not when I'm working."
"May I?" he asked as he fingered the tie that held her hair pulled back from her face.
Peeking at him through her lashes, she nodded slowly, the color in her cheeks deepening.
Kiomo smiled as he slipped the tie from its knot and her curly red hair fell loose around her face. "It's... beautiful," he murmured, touching the soft curls with his fingers. "_You're_ beautiful, Gleniel."
"Keep on sayin' things like that, Kiomo, and you're going to make me turn as red as my hair..." But when she looked up at him, she was smiling.
He chuckled as he traced a finger along her freckled, pink cheek. "I already told you, blushing is very becoming on you, didn't I?" Before she could answer he leaned down to kiss her softly, his fingers burying deep into her soft curls.
