Characters: A'drios, M'yvak
Description: Flights are great for meeting people, and M'yvak has never met a stranger, apparently. He and A'drios hit it off immediately.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 5 of Turn 11
A'drios hummed happily and rolled over to see who he had ended up
with. Not that he was likely to recognize them. Tembreth had
serendipitously risen only a matter of days after he had arrived at
Dragonsfall, and that usually made finding bedmates right out of the
gate much easier.
"How was it?" he asked. He hardly needed to reassure whoever had
caught him. As long as he could remember the sounds A'drios had made
when he had, he would know how he felt about it.
M'yvak wasn't sure the room had stopped spinning yet. **By the
glistening golden shard of Faranth's egg,** he swore inwardly, trying
to gather his wits enough to answer the greenrider beside him. "It
was... It was... Wow, I need water."
"Well, that's a good sign," A'drios chuckled. He stood, poured two
glasses from the flight room pitcher, and offered one of them to the
parched man.
"Thank you," M'yvak croaked, taking the glass and gulping down a
generous bit of it. When he'd returned from Search at the Vintner
Hall, he hadn't expected Pesrath to immediately engage in a mating
flight, but engage he had! The bluerider glanced around the room to
see that his search tokens had ended up scattered over the floor when
his belt had been ripped off.
"I'm M'yvak, by the way, I don't think we've met," he said, gathering
enough of his wits to actually have a conversation.
"A'drios." He held out his hand to shake. Or to take the glass back,
whichever. "Tembreth and I just moved here from Far Islandâ€" did you
know it's feckin' cold here? Reminds me a bit of the Reaches in the
North, but it's definitely a shock coming up from the Islands."
M'yvak grasped the man's hand, feeling a little jolt of chemistry as
he did. "Nice to meet you. I was born here at Dragonsfall, so it
doesn't seem that cold to me, but when I visit Dolphins Cove or Far
Island, I find them sweltering, so I guess it makes sense. What
brought you here?"
"I hadn't been here yet." A'drios hardly needed any other excuse. "I'm
glad to meet you, too." He grinned. "Especially if you'd like to do
this again sometime. And we don't have to wait for Tembreth to fly."
"I'd like that," M'yvak said honestly, setting his glass of water aside.
"Well... there's no time like the present. If you're up for it."
A'drios grinned and climbed back onto the bed.
"I'm never one to say no," the bluerider grinned back. **Maybe I
shouldn't have admitted that right out of the gate...**

"By the First Egg... you really know what's what," A'drios panted. He
laughed and flopped back down onto the bed to catch his breath.
"You're going to have to let me know when you get tired of me, because
I might not leave you alone for a while after this." He grinned.
M'yvak reached over and patted A'drios' thigh. "You have no idea what
a great day this has made." First, he'd actually brought a Candidate
back to the Weyr, and now winning this flight? He might bet everything
he owned in dragonpoker that night because his luck was clearly at an
all-time high.
"I mean... I have some idea," A'drios chuckled. "I was there for the
best part." He laid his hand atop M'yvak's.
"Yes, you were... twice." The bluerider turned his head against the
pillow to look at A'drios. "Shall I show you down to the bathing
pools?"
"I sure wish you would!" A'drios grinned back at M'yvak. There was
always time for round three later. Or eventually.
M'yvak rolled out of the bed and began collecting their clothing,
tossing A'drios's things towards the greenrider. "Oh, yeah, my
tokens," he said, picking them up off of the floor and putting them
back into the pouch that was normally attached to his belt. "Maybe
we'll score a semi-private bathing pool... Although, I suppose, given
on who else is in the pool, they might just join us," he shrugged.
"This is really shaping up to be my kinda place!" A'drios helped pick
the tokens up and handed the few he had gotten back to M'yvak. "How
did your Search go? I take it you got a promising one, considering."
"Search was great. I actually convinced a Candidate to come to the
Weyr. I know that sounds weird, like, why _wouldn't_ you want to come
here? But here lately, it's been difficult."
}:Perhaps you need to be more persuasive,:{ came Pesrath's sleepy
thoughts as he lay entangled with Tembreth.
**How?** M'yvak wondered.
}:Well, whatever you did in that bed seems to have made you a quick
friend with Tembreth's rider.:{
M'yvak laughed out loud at that suggestion. "Oh, sorry," he said to
A'drios, "Pesrath is being silly in my head."
"They do that," A'drios chuckled. "I guess... it's probably a bit
harder to convince people to come now that it's a lot less special and
a lot more fighting Thread."
"I don't know, I don't think anything can diminish that special
connection to a dragon. There's nothing else on Pern like it." M'yvak
wouldn't trade Pesrath for anything, even though facing death every
sevenday was part of the deal.
"Well, we know that. But it's hard to explain it to someone who hasn't
felt it," said A'drios. "I just meant, a lot more people have the
opportunity with clutch sizes getting bigger."
"You would think," M'yvak sighed. "But the hatching before last we had
a dragonet not find a lifemate. She died on the Sands."
A'drios's face fell.
"Ashes. I'm so sorry." He should have just kept his mouth shut. "I can
especially see now why you were so excited, then."
M'yvak let the little dark cloud pass by with a shrug and a smile.
"Yeah, it's exciting when a person makes such a life-changing
decision." Even if they didn't Impress, many candidates stayed at the
Weyr afterwards for crafting or other work. He chatted happily while
leading A'drios to the communal bathing pools.
A'drios did his best not to stare. But he certainly could not say he
did not steal a glance or two. Not enough to make it horribly
creepy... but a glance or two.
"Which Wing were you put into?" M'yvak asked, stripping out of his
clothes before stepping into one of the hot pools and lowering himself
in with a sigh.
"Well, when I first got here, they told me Cyan, but before I even
showed up for the first drills, they changed their minds, so now it's
Cobalt." A'drios joined him in the bath.
"Oh," M'yvak said with a pleased smile. "We'll be in the same Wing, then!"
A'drios was just as pleasedâ€" if not more. He smiled back.
"I'm glad I'll be seeing more of you."
"That makes two of us," M'yvak grinned back.
