Late Night Stitching

Writers: Rylie
Date Posted: 20th March 2006

Characters: Otrina
Description: Otrina ponders her life as she sits up late stitching
Location: Smith Hall (NPC)
Date: month 11, day 1 of Turn 3

Otrina entered her bedchamber with a tired sigh. Today had been somewhat trying as there had been an incident in the kitchen and Otrina had found it necessary to speak to two of the drudges, something she absolutely hated to do. Although she had always respected her mother she had never appreciated all that the patient woman had done within the hall. She wondered if her father had.

Picking up her sewing basket, Otrina moved to the small chair near the shuttered window. Embroidery helped her relax and she was quite anxious to finish the special project that she had been working on. Her mother had made the blue shawl out of the finest fabric when she was still alive, and asked Otrina to embroider the edges.

The project had taken a great deal of time as Otrina was using the tiniest stitches, and taking the greatest care. Her mother had meant the shawl as a gift for Lady Thalia. Otrina hoped to deliver it within the next sevenday and fulfill her mother's wishes.

The girl sighed again, brushing a tear from her eye and pushing a blonde curl from her face. She missed her mother so. More than just a mother, the kind woman had been her confidant and had always been there to lift her spirits. Thankful for the added responsibilities which had served to keep her busy and her mind from dwelling on unhappy thoughts, Otrina found that she was still quite lonely.

She had actually thought of writing a letter to her brother D'trian. She had felt closer to him than her other siblings before he had left. Oh, her father would be so angry if he were ever to find out, but Otrina felt a need to reach out to someone right now.

Fieayz came to mind. Otrina really did want to get to know the fosterling better, but often found herself shy around the older more confident girl. Still, Fieayz would surely understand her feelings of loneliness, having come to a hold where she knew no one. Of course Fieayz had Arva to provide her with some company, Otrina thought longingly. She had often dreamed of owning one of the beautiful, bright little firelizards. Though now, with her father's newly developed distain for the winged creatures, that dream was not likely to come true.

A yawn escaped Ortrina's lips and she held up the shawl to appraise her stitching. Nearly finished, and she had to admit it was her best work ever. Well, that would have to do for tonight. She was too tired to do more. Time for bed where she could dream of marrying a kind and handsome man who would give her a firelizard. Otrina giggled at her silly thoughts, and put away her embroidery.
