K'mai

K'mai

Ravyan laid on the floor on his stomach and showed Sabia a ball. "Say,
ball, Sabs," he urged. He was trying to teach Sabia how to speak, well,
speak more. Sabia did know how to speak, she just seemed to think
that: gimme, wanna and no, was all the vocabulary she needed. Sabia
reached out, took the ball and threw it.
"Say 'ball' not throw it," Ravyan scolded.
With a giggle, Sabia leaned forward, put her chubby hands around
Ravyan's face and gave him a slobbery kiss.
Ravyan had to admit he really loved having a baby sister.
"You're doing this on purpose," the boy accused her.

They both heard the door open.
"K'ma!" Sabia cried with delighted voice and Ravyan turned to look.

"Oh, hi, K'mai. You here for Sabia?" as far as Ravyan was concerned,
the bluerider was Sabia's father. He acted like one and that was all
credentials he needed.

"Yep." K'mai picked up the little girl and gave her a kiss. "How has
your day been?" he asked Ravyan. The boy seemed to enjoy his role as
foster brother to Sabia and K'mai was glad they got along.

Sabia wrapped her arms around the bluerider's neck. She was very
affactionate little girl.

"Good, I'm trying to teach her to expand her vocabulary, but she's not
co-operating," Ravyan was proud the way he could use and get out those fancy
words.

"It takes a while for babies to learn," K'mai said. "Just be patient,
she'll get it."

Ravyan just nodded. Sabia spotted the ball on the floor. "Gimme," she
demanded, pointing it. When no one reacted fast enough, she raised her
volume. "Gimme!"

"No need to shout honey." K'mai bent down to pick up the ball,
carefully shifting his increasingly heavy daughter. To Ravyan, he
joked, "Maybe you can teach her please and thank you."

"I'm trying," Ravyan said seriously. "She does get really loud."
Sabia was happily holding the ball and chewing it. She was getting
more teeth and the worn leather relieved the itching.

The bluerider laughed. "I appreciate you trying. Do you think you
might grow up to be a harper?"

"Maybe, my mom's from Harper Hall. But what I really want is a
dragon," Ravyan replied.

"Of course." Most children wanted to be riders, especially younger
ones. "What color would you like?"

"Bronze, of course," Ravyan replied, mostly because it was expected
from him. Deep down, he didn't care what colour. His mother's green
was prettiest one he ever seen. He was still too young to understand
the connection between dragon's colour and their rider's sexuality.

"Are you sure you don't want blue? Those are the _best_ dragons."

"Honestly, I don't care. I just want a dragon," Ravyan replied. "And
greens are prettiest ones."

"Sebeth would certainly agree with you there." K'mai shifted Sabia to
his other arm. The little girl seemed content with her ball and K'mai
enjoyed talking with Ravyan.

Ravyan nodded. He liked K'mai, the bluerider wasn't condescending like
some grown ups who talked to children. "Do you ever need help washing
him? I have lot of experience washing dragons," he offered hopefully.

"I do. I'd be happy for you to help." Even the so called smaller
dragons were enormous and K'mai wasn't going to turn down help.

"Good," Ravyan gave him a bright smile.

K'mai leaned down to give him a pat on the shoulder. "I should get
going. Uetia is probably waiting for us."
