Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 11 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: K'reyel, E'las (adoptable)

"Ugh, that took forever." R'ien set aside the last of the papers and
leaned back as far as his office chair would allow, stretching hugely.
**Donovath, could you call Galerith and tell him I finally have some
time to speak with Sh'lua? Oh, and say I'm sorry for the delay.**

}:Certainly.:{ The brown shifted his attention to the aforementioned
blue. }:Galerith, my rider has defeated the endless hordes of
paperwork, so he can speak with your rider now. He apologizes that it
took so long and caused such an inconvenience.:{

}: That's alright, my rider went to feed himself. I let him know, :{
Galerith replied and the relayed the message to his rider. Sh'lua had
indeed gone to the dining hall and gotten himself a klah and a
meatroll.

He was still munching the last bits of the roll when he peeked in to
R'ien's office. "Hi, finally go it done?" he asked and nodded towards
the piles of hides.

"Yes, and my wrists may never be the same," R'ien said, half smiling
to show he was kidding. "Please, have a seat. What did you need to
speak to me about? Is everything okay?" he asked, resting his hands on
the desk. For once, the appendages felt too tired to fidget, at least
for now.

"Yeah, everything's fine. I just need some time off and thought I
could shift my duties. There's upcoming weyrling graduation in the
family and I kind of want to attend it," Sh'lua replied.

"Oh, congratulations," R'ien said brightly, finding a fresh piece of
paper and picking up his pen. "I can't personally approve it, mind,
but I can certainly make sure this gets the Weyrleader's attention.
What's the date, and which duties were you looking to switch about?"

"Day thirteen in this month. I have sweeps then. I already talked with
E'las, he's wiling to do my sweep if I do two of his watch-duties,"
Sh'luaa replied.

"And that instantly makes everything easier," R'ien said immediately,
writing it all down. He signed his name and blew on the ink before
carefully setting the notice aside. "All right, I can turn that in at
the end of the day with other requests and reports. Is there anything
else I can help you with?"

"Naah, I'm good. Hey, are you going to join the rest day poker game?"
Sh'lua replied and asked.

The Wingsecond was mildly surprised. "Our wingmates were planning a
game night?" **Donovath, would you ask Hadzeth if L'kaz heard about
the upcoming poker game?** If anyone would know, his best friend
would. The other, snarky brownrider had a surprising love of many
types of games, which was one reason why R'ien's kids adored him.

}:Certainly.:{

"Is there a time agreed on?"

"There's no set time. People start to drift in after 18th candlemarks,
when they've done with all the drills and stuff. We start when we have
enough people for a game," Sh'lua replied. "Sometimes we end up
playing 'go fish' , when there's not enough for poker."

R'ien chuckled. "Go Fish? Isn't that a child's game?" he asked,
smiling so Sh'lua wouldn't be offended.

}:Hadzeth says L'kaz heard, but with being on sweep, he hasn't had a
chance to spread the word yet,:{ Donovath stated. }:He'd like to be
there and hopes you will be too.:{

**Odds are good I will be.**

"Yes, it is," Sh'lua grinned. "It's better than playing solitaire. I
always end up cheating in solitaire."

The Wingsecond couldn't help but crack up. "Are you tradebred, by
chance? Cheating oneself at a game just to see what would happen was
pretty common among the professional gamblers of the Kuzhai caravan,
where I came from." He opened his upper left desk drawer, fishing out
a worry-stone of onyx and rubbing it between his fingers. "Related to
the first point, are players expected to bring refreshments? My family
and others among the caravan generally believed it was polite to at
least offer to bring something to a gathering like this."

"Weyrbrat here," Sh'lua thumped himself in a chest with a chuckled.
"Yeah, people usually bring something, like drinks. Or raid/beg
something from the kitchen."

"I'll certainly do that, then. Thank you for informing me." R'ien
beamed, and almost dismissed Sh'lua since the business part of the
meeting seemed to be concluded, but something made him hesitate. "Is
there anything else I should know?"

Sh'lua just shook his head. His life been without any unsual
happenings. Routine was all good, the bluerider thought, if the
alternative was some sort of crisis or somebody being injured.

"All right, just thought I should ask. It wouldn't look good if I
missed a detail now," R'ien half joked. "Thank you for coming in,
Sh'lua. I hope the rest of your day goes nicely."

"Likewise, R'ien, it's always nice to chat with you," Sh'lua replied
and go to up to leave.

The Wingsecond stood as well with a nod. "And you as well. I'm looking
forward to that game night." There was a good chance he would get the
pants beaten off him despite having a marvelous poker face, but hey,
the fun was in the playing. It might also be a good chance to get to
better know some of the Wing members he had less contact with. Perhaps
his job never truly was done, yet that was okay in this case.

Sh'lua gave him relaxed salute and strolled out.
