Jeyme

Jeyme

A screaming green echoed behind Jeyme in the Far Island weyrbowl. It wasn't Quinneth, at least. The green was bathing on her ledge, taking company with a blue that had transferred in recently.

"Excuse me," Jeyme murmured as she skirted through the group of men that were hastily making their way toward the flight room.

As she glanced at their retreating forms, she couldn't help but be drawn back to another day in the past.....

**Flashback**

Quinneth crowed and screeched, acting as if she owned Far Island Weyr, even though she'd only been there for a couple of days. Normally, Jeyme would have been red with embarrassment at such behavior, but Far Island was a new start for her, no one here had to know that she'd came into Weyrhood as a naive Lady in Waiting.

The shuffle of boots on the floor made Jeyme realize that she was no longer alone in the flight room, the men had arrived. She glanced over her shoulder and recognized only one face, the brownrider who had came to greet her on her first day. What was his name again? A'lan? A'ban?

**Whatever.** She shook her head and turned her back on the men again. Jeyme didn't care who won. There was no familiar Yumath or Loseth to chase this time.

Quinneth tore into the sky, her excitement and thrill at being in a new place, with new males, made her more daring than usual. They had never seen a green like her before, she was sure!

The males, a small pack comprised of blues and a couple browns, eagerly jostled for position into the airspace behind Quinneth. Some of the riders had been hesitant about the flight, since the green was new and they'd never seen her rider, but after finding Jeyme in the flight room, they were more than ready to win.

Quinneth showed no favoritism, she didn't know these males, and her only objective was to elude them for as long as possible.

}:Gotcha!:{ A sterling blue boasted, swooping in on Quinneth.

}:Ha!:{ Quinneth scoffed, ducking her wings and barrel-rolling away from the careening male. }:As if.:{ She called back mockingly.

While the green was distracted, Creloth made his move, snatching Quinneth out of the air, and ending her chase.

}:All mine.:{ The brown crowed in triumph as he tilted his wings and flew them out away from the Weyr.

Everything back on the ground was a blur of hands, buttons, clothes, and lips. There was a burning need sweeping through Jeyme's body that needed to be slaked and only the man in her arms could do it.

"I told you we would be friends," the brownrider murmured with his cocksure grin.

Jeyme rolled her eyes, the most movement her lethargic body could handle as she lay tucked into the stranger's side. "I don't even remember your name," she mumbled.

This earned her an amused chuckle. "A'dan."

Right, not A'lan or A'ban, she told herself. She should have remembered her wingmate's name from the two practices she'd been at, but she wasn't really interested in getting to know anyone. Jeyme wanted to fly Thread, take care of Quinneth, and see her son. Those were her objectives.

"Are you making a concerted effort to avoid everyone here at Far Island? The others in the Wing would like to get to know you." A'dan pointed out, his thumb idly stroking over her upper arm.

"I just..." Jeyme didn't want to go into the details of what had happened. Things were still too raw. "I've had bad experiences with friends in the past. I'd rather not do that again."

It didn't take a genius to realize that the greenrider felt as though she had been betrayed. "Perhaps they weren't really friends then?"

She considered that. Had Kapera ever really been her friend? Probably not. "True enough." Even though Jeyme had worked meticulously at avoiding the memory of that day, she could still see the look on Kapera's face when she'd let it slip that she had slept with D'hol, and as she saw that image behind her eyelids, the same sinking feeling of hurt and betrayal crept back into her stomach.

**No. This is a new start.** She refused to relive the defeat she had felt when she realized that D'hol would never be able to love her enough to remain faithful outside of flights. The problem wasn't with her, it was with him, and the sham of a relationship they'd had.

"You got anywhere to be?" Jeyme asked.

A'dan's eyebrows lifted a little, as he wasn't entirely sure where Jeyme was going with her question, "No...where...?"

Jeyme rolled over, straddling the brownrider between her thighs, her sable hair tumbling down around her shoulders. "Good, I'm not finished with you."

"Well, this is a nice -"

"Shut up." Jeyme cut the man off with kiss.

***End Flashback***

The end of the memory made Jeyme chuckle a little and shake her head. The memory felt like forever ago, so much had happened between then and now. She and A'dan had certainly become friends after that.

}:I itch.:{ Quinneth broke into her thoughts, causing Jeyme to turn and look back up toward their weyr.

**Meet me by the water.** She suggested. **I've got to pick up Ayeme later.**

The green dropped lazily off of her ledge and circled down to the water.
