New Arrival

Writers: Leigh M-F.
Date Posted: 30th May 2017

Characters: Nohria
Description: The fire-lizard hatches.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 12, day 2 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Corran

Nohria had been woken up far too early by the sound of something
cracking, which was why she was currently standing next to one of the
kitchen prep tables that had a bowl of pork scraps atop it while she
was wearing nothing but a nightgown and thick socks, hair in a
disheveled mess around her shoulders. A few kitchen workers who had
gotten up to get a start on the day's baking were also watching the
fire-lizard egg rock and twitch in Nohria's hands as she excitedly
whispered encouragement to it.

A chip. A pop. A wriggle. Then, a brown head shoved through the shell,
followed quickly by wings, tail, and the rest of the body, sprawling
against the herbalist's skin, sticky and squirmy and just like the
infants she had helped deliver among the bandits. "There you are, my
dear!" Nohria quietly cheered. "Good job!" She carefully moved one
hand to the bowl of scraps, and started feeding them to the
disoriented animal. "Here we go, that's one piece- here's two- slow
down and chew, Malin, it's not going anywhere," she said firmly,
tugging on the piece her new pet currently had his teeth fixed on.
"Now chew. Chew it- that's it, that's how you chew. Good boy, Malin.
Oh, just look at you."

He was a darling little thing, that was for sure. A deep, klah-colored
brown up top, so that anyone who looked at him from above would think
he was that color all over. But anyone who saw him flying overhead
would think he was a shade of brown so light, it almost looked blond.
Nohria was feeling decidedly gooey (and not from the egg fluid) by the
time little Malin had eaten his fill and was sleepily curling up
against her chest. She would probably have to try to make a small
sling to carry him around in until she could teach him how to perch on
her shoulder. But that was all right; anything Malin needed didn't
seem unreasonable in the afterglow of Impression.

Nohria was going to have to show Corran how thankful she was very
soon. This was truly the greatest gift she had ever received.
