Description: A playful moment between Talwynn and D'kere.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 7 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Genna, Lanniya
"Well, it looks as though I'll have some more time on my hands,"
D'kere said as he sat down beside of Talwynn. "Genna is off to River
Bluff with her eggs, and Lanniya's Anaeryth just hatched at Dolphin
Cove. Since Dragonsfall didn't get a egg-heavy gold out of the swap we
won't have any new Weyrlings for quite some time."
"Are you worried about it, or glad for the break?" she asked. She was
looking forward to the idea of more time with him. But the Weyr could
use new eggs.
"I am torn. Dragonsfall could use more dragonets, of course, losing
out on a healthy clutch of dragons is never a positive thing for a
Weyr during the Pass." He paused and then turned his winking blue eyes
up to Talwynn, "But I do love taking my favorite lady fishing, and I
should have much more time for that now."
"You know I'm up for anything involving keeping warm," she said. Going
fishing was one choice, and during snowbound days there were other
options.
D'kere studied Talwynn for a moment and then asked, "Are you now?" He
leaned in close, lips nearly brushing her ear before he whispered,
"Like shoveling the ice and snow off the ledge?"
"Depends, do I get a reward after?" the greenrider asked, raising an
eyebrow. This wasn't where she'd _expected_ it to go, but maybe if
there was incentive...
The bronzerider tossed back his head in a laugh. "I would never ask my
lady to shovel the ledge," he shook his head at her, but then leaned
in again, "I will shovel it with or without a reward." He paused and
then added, "But a reward would be nice."
Talwynn grinned and leaned forward to brush her lips along his cheek
in a feathery kiss. "I think that could be arranged. A proper reward
for a handsome man."
"Good, because the thought of you on your icy ledge makes me worry."
D'kere smiled, liking how he had managed to get Talwynn to agree to
letting him clean off her ledge without any fuss. She was an
independent sort and D'kere had to be careful not to offend her
abilities.
"I could sit back and watch you and your nice muscles do all the
work," she teased.
"Yes you could, with a hot cup of klah in hand." He agreed.
"And a second one for you too so you can warm up."
"I'll take the cup of klah, but then I do have plans to warm up, these
plans involve you," he stood and collected his coat from the hook by
her door. "Just so you know."
"I'd be offended if they included someone else," she said, a spark of
possessiveness flaring. "I'll just have to come up with a few ways to
stay warm."
Shrugging into his coat, D'kere pulled on his gloves and then walked
over and leaned down for a kiss, "I'll work quickly."
Talwynn decided to get that klah, so she stepped out the door of her
weyr and into the corridor, asking a passing caverns worker to bring a
fresh hot pitcher to the weyr. It was only a few minutes before the
pitcher was delivered. She poured two cups and then carried hers to
where she could watch him working on the ledge.
She wondered how she'd been lucky enough to wind up like this, with
someone as handsome as him paying attention to someone like her.
Handsome and nice...he was the kind of bronzerider of Harper's tales
and young women's dreams. What made him spend time with her? Take her
fishing, tolerate her disability, expect exclusivity even when she'd
pushed him away before...
}:Kenirath's rider should be the one appreciating what he has,:{
Riveth said. The green dragon didn't like it when her rider's mind
turned dark and she questioned herself. In her opinion, others should
be glad to be around her rider.
The cockiness in the green's tone made Talwynn wonder. **And what do
you think of Kenirath?**
}:He is smart enough to appreciate me. I will see how he can fly,:{
the green said dismissively, flicking her tail - and knocking more
snow around.
"Riveth! Watch where you're pushing that," she scolded.
D'kere had to side step quickly to avoid the wave of snow that Riveth
pushed in his direction. Well, that was certainly one way to clear the
ledge, D'kere thought. He jabbed his shovel down into the ice that had
formed on the ledge, continuing to chip it up and then scrape it away
so that the stone was clear.
As he straightened to rest his back for a moment, he leaned on his
shuffle, steam wafting from his mouth as he panted lightly. Looking
around he noticed that he was not the only dragonrider out cleaning a
ledge.
Leaning his shovel against the stone wall of the weyrouch, D'kere
carefully walked the path that he'd cleared, "I know we see it all the
time, but there's nothing like the way the Weyr looks covered in
snow." He said, taking one of the cups of klah from Talwynn.
"It's very different from a beach weyr like Dolphin Cove," Talwynn
agreed. Sometimes she missed the expansive sands of where she'd grown
up. But the way Dragonsfall looked in the snow was soft and peaceful
and calm in the way the dynamic ocean never seemed.
"Sometimes I miss living by the sea, but if I transferred I'm sure I'd
miss this."
A crooked grin crossed D'kere's face, "You mean this?" He gestured at
himself.
She lightly punched him on the shoulder. "The snow, wherryhead. I
wouldn't leave without you."
She hadn't intended to say that. It wasn't the kind of sentiment she
would have said before. She'd thought it when Harki left - she
wouldn't have transferred away for the love of a man, when she had so
much here, family, friends, clutchmates. Somewhere along the way
D'kere had become part of that, another reason for her to stay
grounded.
"Good," D'kere said, stepping in close, "because if you left I'd have
to follow you." He kissed her softly.
"Seems like no one's going anywhere unless we both decide it," she
said. And then he kissed her, soft and sweet, and thoughts of going
anywhere were unimportant. She kissed him back with fierceness and
need, while on the ledge Riveth crooned an approval.
"Ready for that warming up?" she asked when their lips finally separated.
D'kere set his cup of klah aside, "Very ready."
She set her own down, then grinned at him and dashed as fast as she
could (not very, in the weather) for the bedroom. "Come on, then."
Smiling, D'kere followed his greenrider inside.
