News From the Cothold

Writers: Leigh M-F.
Date Posted: 30th August 2016

Characters: Nohria
Description: Nohria gets a message she wishes she could welcome.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 7, day 13 of Turn 8
Notes: Warden borrowed with permission from Avery.

Warden had brought her the message early in the morning; so early, she had only just woken up. Nohria wasn't happy about the intrusion, given what she had been doing last night, but she took the message anyway. The first read-through woke her up in a hurry. The next two re-reads still couldn't help her believe what Corran was saying. His parents were fine, but he was bringing them back to Amber Hills, and they wanted to meet her.

Her first reaction was disbelief: What by the fardling Ancients had he been telling his parents about her to make them so eager to meet her? The second reaction was delight, and relief his folks were all right. The third reaction was panic: Parental introductions were generally a major step in the courtship process. Distance had not cooled Corran's feelings, apparently. Her fourth feeling was despair: Corran's parents didn't want to meet _her_; they wanted to meet the law-following drudge who was potentially marriage and childbearing material.

Nohria had to swallow hard against a scream of outrage and frustration. If she didn't want to rouse Corran's suspicions now, she couldn't say no. She couldn't tell him she wanted to break it off, either, because she still liked him a lot, still wanted him deeply. Essentially, she wanted it both ways: She wanted Corran, but she also wanted her freedom.

She couldn't have it both ways. It was one or the other, as her nightmare last month had brutally shown her.

She was decided. When Corran got back, she would meet his parents, and then she would seduce him. He hadn't tried anything when she was supposedly three sheets to the wind at the River Bluff hatching, but if she was sober and again willing, then he might say yes, and she could get the physical desire out of her system. Then, when her fellow bandits got their point across, she could vanish into the night and return to her comrades, and return to who she was supposed to be.

Nohria got out of bed and opened her little trunk, bringing out a charcoal pencil from a small paper package, and wrote on the back of the note: **I look forward to seeing you again and meeting your parents. - Nohria.** She handed the note to Warden, who clasped it in his forepaws and took off, knowing his duty. Then she got her usual brown dress and bathing supplies, and prepared for another day. With any luck, she could get a nap today and spread more messages that night.
