R'axe

R'axe

Elona didn't usually drink. Before the hatching she'd organised for
her son to stay with a friend, in case she did impress. Rather than
pick him up early, she decided to take some time for herself. She'd
grabbed a small plate of food and a glass of wine and sat in the
dining cavern, watching people around her chat happily and discuss how
wonderful the hatching had been.

She wanted to cry.

It had been a long sevenday, R'axe had seen a dragon and rider fatally
scored before his very eyes and tonight he just wanted to eat, drink,
and lose himself in a warm, willing body. With his cup and plate in
hand, R'axe's eyes honed in on Elona. From the woman's posture, to her
facial expression, he had a hunch that they were in similar moods.

"Mind if I sit?" he asked.

"No," Elona replied, startled momentarily. "I mean yes. I mean I don't
mind." Her face reddened, embarrassed at her lack of eloquence.

The woman's response made R'axe smile a little as he took the seat. "I
am R'axe, by the way. Thanks for sharing the seat." He gave her the
sideways grin that he knew the women liked.

Her blush deepened. She wasn't used to reviving attention from older,
good looking men. Unless she counted Sh'lua, but they were just
friends these days.

"Hello. I'm Elona. You're welcome."

R'axe tucked into his food for a moment before looking back up at her,
"So, Elona, you look as if you have something on your mind. I am a
good listener." He invited.

She looked at him in surprise. "Oh. Well-" She probably shouldn't be
feeling sorry for herself really. Things could be worse. "I'm just a
little down because I didn't impress again."

"Ah, I remember how that feels. I didn't Impress my Jayth the the
first time out. Did some of your friends Impress?" He asked.

"Yes, one did," she replied. "I've just been standing for turns. I'm
sorry," she added with a sigh. "I sound very sorry for myself."

"Don't apologize, it's a tough thing." His eyes swept over her visage
again, assessing. "Would you like some help taking your mind off of
it?"

"Yes I would," she replied tentatively. She took another sip of wine. Her head
was starting to feel light, but it was pleasant.

R'axe smiled as he finished his meal, "Come on, bring your glass, I've
got some wine in my weyr you can try. I just got it from the Vintner
Hall last sevenday."

"Even nicer than this?" she asked, rising to her feet. "I don't know
much about wine, but this one was nice."

"Much nicer." R'axe guaranteed as he too rose and offered her his arm
to escort her back to his weyr.

She took his arm and had a brief moment of clarity. She wasn't naive
enough to not know what might happen. She glanced sideways at him and
decided that she didn't mind. A dragon apparently wasn't going to
choose her, so she might as well enjoy Weyr life. It didn't hurt that
he was good-looking.

"Thank you," she said politely.

R'axe led Elona up to his weyr, which he kept habitually tidy since he
never knew who he might be bringing over or when. "Have a seat." He
said, motioning to the couch as he retrieved the aforementioned bottle
of wine and brought over two glasses. "This one will have a bit
lighter taste than what was in the Dining Cavern." He told her as he
poured her a glass and handed it to her.

Elona accepted the drink with a smile and sipped. "Mmm, that _is_
nice. Thank you." She smoked again and looked around, surprised at how
tidy it was.

He sat down on the couch near her, "So how long have you been at the
Weyr? Were you already here and decided to Stand or were your Searched
from somewhere?"

Suddenly reminded of why she'd been in a dark mood, she sighed softly.
"I've been here for about four turns now. I came from Amber Hills. I
was Searched and then -well- I'm still trying. What about you?"

"I transferred here over a Turn ago. It's been good." R'axe thought of
the people he'd met since he'd been at Dragonsfall, mostly J'kri and
Paetri. He noted the look on Elona's face, and he reached out to tuck
some of her hair behind her ear, "You still have plenty of time out to
Impress, and if you don't, it just means you're meant to do something
else."

"I know." She smiled wryly. "I'd hardly be the first to age-out
either. Just - I didn't think I would."

R'axe doubted that anyone thought they would age-out, "Why don't we do
something to take your mind off of it?" He offered, one golden eyebrow
arched, his eyes inviting.

"Like what?" she asked, although her heart skipped a beat at the look
he gave her.

"How about we start with a massage? I am very good with my hands." He
promised her.

She blushed slightly. "All right. Do I need to lie down?" Shards,
suddenly her body was aching for him to touch her. Not that she'd ask,
but she had a feeling he'd know.

"Yeah, come on over and stretch out on the bed so I'll have plenty of
room to work." There was a slight purr in his voice now as he took
Elona's hand and guided her up from the couch.

She put her glass down on a table and followed. There was little doubt
in her mind what was going to happen, but wine, disappointment and the
several turns since she'd let any an touch her told her that this was
a perfectly good idea.

She lay down on her stomach and kept her head up, so could watch his movements.

The first thing R'axe did was slip Elona's shoes off and place them
neatly in the floor at the foot of the bed. Then, taking his own off,
he joined her on the bed on his knees. Starting at the base of her
neck he began massaging slow, rhythmic circles through the material of
her clothing. He didn't want to push her too quickly, once she seemed
a little more relaxed he would suggest losing some articles of
clothing.

"That feels so nice," she said, lowering her head onto her arms. It
might put some people to sleep, but it had the opposite effect on her.

"Let's take this off, hm?" R'axe suggested, his voice low and heated
as he tugged lightly at the hem of Elona's shirt.

She hesitated for a moment, then sat up. Not quite meeting his eyes,
she pulled off her shirt and set it aside. For her, it was a brave
thing to have done and she was pleasantly surprised that she'd done
it.

R'axe's goal was to make Elona feel comfortable as he reached out and
tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, "You are very beautiful,
Elona."

She blushed. "I don't know about that…" she replied, her head ducked a little.

"You are. Let me show you." He murmured, capturing her chin between his long fingers as he tilted her face to his and kissed her softly.

Elona kissed him back, liking the way his lips felt on hers.

The return of the kiss was all of the acceptance that R'axe needed. Wrapping his arms around Elona, he proceeded to take her mind completely off of her earlier sadness.
