Description: Talwynn and D'kere go fishing and enjoy time alone.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 21 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Lissath, E'naer
Talwynn was looking forward to the fishing trip and the chance to
spend some time with D'kere where it was just the two of them (and
their dragons). She'd known that working with him was going to be
different from normal and she was professional enough to know that he
was giving orders as a matter of keeping the weyrlings' training
running smoothly, not because he wanted to be bossing _her_ around.
But she enjoyed the idea of it just being them for a bit, no titles
and no small dragonriders around to cause trouble.
Riveth was strapped up and the gear tied to her side. She narrowed her
eyes and inspected it. She still had to find out who could do those
custom strap designs if she was going to be doing some of the more
intense weyrling drills. It was going to take awhile to get them made,
she should start now.
}:Think of sun and of fish,:{ Riveth said, sensing the beginning of
her rider's disgruntlement. }:And Kenirath's is coming!:{
With no current Weyrlingmaster, D'kere was finding free time harder to
come by, and even though he'd scheduled to take this fishing trip with
Talwynn, he'd still had to take care of some things with the Weyrlings
before meeting up with her.
Kenirath landed in a flashy display of his bronze wings, crooning a
welcome to Riveth as D'kere waved from his neckridge. "Hey, sorry I'm
late. All set?"
Riveth arched her neck and preened at the bronze. Lissath's hatching
and who had sired the eggs was already fading from her mind, but she
still dimly remembered she wanted to impress him so he paid attention
to her.
"I'm ready. Hoping the fish will bite well today. No crises?"
"Thankfully no, and if one arises E'naer can deal with it." D'kere smiled.
Kenirath shuffled restlessly on his powerful, back haunches,
indicating that he was more than ready to be at their destination and
out of his straps. "See you there!" D'kere called, finally giving
Kenirath the go ahead that he had been waiting for and spurring the
dragon to spring into the air.
Their favorite fishing spot was sunny and beautiful and surrounded by
a vibrant, green countryside that instantly made D'kere feel at ease
as soon as they come out of /between/. Anxious to expose his skin to
the warm rays of the sun, D'kere tore open his coat and hooked it to
his riding straps as Kenirath made his descent.
Feeling showy, Riveth dove for the ground as soon as they were out of
/between/, backwinging and sending up dust and leaves as she settled down.
Talwynn whooped at the descent and slid herself off as soon as they hit.
Then she started pulling on the straps to get them off, her left hand
going quicker.
"I missed going fast," she called over.
D'kere smiled at Talwynn and Riveth's showy display. He liked seeing
the green pair when they could be carefree and playful, something
their accident had robbed from them.
Hopping down from Kenirath's neckridge, D'kere unloaded his fishing
gear and then took off his lifemate's straps. "Off you go then, and
quietly or you will scare away the fish."
Once Riveth's straps were off, Talwynn unhooked the fishing equipment.
"I hope we get something nice and big."
"Me too. Fresh fish are the best." He said as he spread the blanket
where they could sit and fish from the bank.
Once he had the blanket down, she set the box with the equipment down
to the side and started setting her pole. "I'm getting a little tired
of kitchens food anyway. Sometimes it starts to feel same-y."
"Agreed. They get in a routine and it's nice to have something
different." D'kere cast his hook and bait into the water and then set
his pole up beside of him. "Are you liking your Weyrling training?"
"I like this class. Part of it's boring, but that's not your fault -
we don't really design weyrlinghood for retakers, because who does
that?" A one-sided shrug to indicate she knew how rare it was. "But
it'll be good for me to start from the beginning with the sack tossing
and the like, I imagine. Even if it makes me feel like a child."
D'kere settled his fingers lightly on his fishing pole as ripples in
the water blossomed from his line, "Well, if it gets you to the point
of joining the Queen's Wing it will be worth it, right?"
She nodded. "I hope it works out. But if not...well, I survived the
last couple Turns." But how happy she'd be to be useful again!
"It will, you -" D'kere was suddenly interrupted by the end of his rod
bowing downward toward the ground. Snatching up his pole, the
bronzerider gave his rod a backward flick to further hook the fish on
the other end, and then he began the tedious process of reeling it in.
"First catch!" He crowed as he brought the flopping fish up onto
shore.
"Nice size, too," she said appreciatavely. A couple more like that,
and they'd have amazing eating. Nothing was happening on her line, and
she swished the pole around. "Let's hope a few more bite."
"If not, I'll be eating fish tonight and I guess you'll just have to
eat whatever the Dining Cavern serves." There was a teasing gleam in
his eyes as he cut his baby blues at her.
"That would be terrible," she said. "I guess I'd have to wheedle some
out of you."
"Oh really? And how would you do that?" He waggled his eyebrows.
She shifted closer and nudged him with her knee. "I think I could be
very persuasive, oh handsome one."
D'kere smiled, "I like it when you are persuasive." He returned the nudge.
Feeling daring, she leaned over and kissed his cheek. "I think you'll
find I'm getting rather better at it."
A low rumble sounded in D'kere's chest, "If you keep that up we
definitely won't be taking home any more fish today."
"Ah, but then we wouldn't have the food we need for other things. And
wouldn't that be a shame? You'll need energy," she teased.
She had been wiggling the rod as she spoke, and that was rewarded when
it dipped down. It took her a minute to be reeling the fish in, but
finally she gave a mighty yank and a fish came up.
D'kere grinned as the fish flopped out of the water, "Oh a nice one.
It looks like there _will_ be enough for both of us." He winked as he
cast his bait back into the water, "I'd better catch another though,
as you said, we may need the energy."
